Thanks , I will let know how it all works out.
I have had very good service from the DAF trucks I have so far.
The agents on the other hand are a bit clueless and often don't have fast moving parts like pistons or filters so I wont mention holding on their more obscure parts.
I know the Irish guys seem to have a torrid time with DAF but they have been good to me.
On this motor it was due to previous poor maintenance that I had to do an inline due to a blown head gasket.
On strip down the pistons sleeves and bearings were like new.
On another 2 we decided to replace the big end and main bearings during a major service at about 500 000miles.
The wear was so little it was almost not visible , just a bit of color change from the brand new ones.
They also don't use oil between services at 500 000 miles.
The work we do varies anywhere between 66 000lbs and 120 000lbs so I am pleased with this.

The truck is still going strong.
I am told the truck has stopped smoking in the morning.
It should be back in our depot in about 3 weeks and I will make a point of checking it myself.
Will take oil samples as well.
I'm not sure if it stopped smoking because summer is approaching and morning temperatures are higher.
I hope is is cured although I would love to be sure what the issue really was.

This truck is still running strong with no issues except a $20 000-00 gearbox repair and Im not exaggerating.
I didn't know it was possible but that is what it cost with out the tow.

    Yes a Astronic 16spd.
The aluminum heat exchanger on the intader got a leak.
Driver just kept adding water to radiator to try get back.
    Fried the computer.
New top cover , complete rebuilt transmission , new stainless steel heat exchanger, rebuilt intarder , new oil pumps , new slide and clutch fork $20 000.
We removed and installed the transmission , ZF did all the work.
We did have one done month earlier by ZF that cost $ 8500-00.
The cause was the same a leaking heat exchanger but the damage was not as bad.

Truck running well and the morning smoke disappeared after about 10 000miles never to return.
I can only guess the compression rings on one or 2 pistons would not seat when cold.

    daf105paccar Thanks this.

Its a lot colder where you are from so it would take longer to warm up i suppose. I cant advise you to just leave it alone as I don't know.I do know that I spent a lot to get nowhere.
