Should Truckstops Charge For Parking?

Your nuts to think we should pay to park at all truck stops... As if they don't get plenty of money out of the driver for everything else...

 

I voted no. I just got back from San Felipe Casino truck stop in NM. No charge for parking. Shower? 75 gallons and it's free or it will cost you $10.00..

Everything at a truck stop is overpriced to cover for their overhead, any true trucker willfully paying or willfully advocating paying for parking spaces deserves to be 'thrown under the bus'.

 

They have a captive market but if truckers didn't buy their over priced merchandise, who would? Kind of like opening a grocery store or a restaurant and not having a parking lot. Maybe they could start valet parking since they have become so upscale.

On the "charging for parking" they should set up cameras to see witch truckers are nasty and throw their urine filled bottle and trash out the window, and charge them $100.00!!!!

 

I believe in free enterprise but I also prefer a free lot to paying for one. I buy fuel, food, and supplies at the ts's that I stop at. I do like the reserve-a-spot service that TA and Petro offer because that means you are guaranteed a spot if you are willing to pay for the reservation. That is a choice which means we do not have to pay for the service if we do not wish to do so. I think keeping the roads safe by having a place for trucks to park for the night is more important than worrying if someone is "$5 foot long freeloading". I would to venture to guess that 90% of us drivers who park at the TS spend money there before we call it a night and when we wake up and are about to get back on the road. I drive hotshot and with my "rig" being a dually, I am pressed for space which means I cannot have some of the same amenities that more of the big rigs have. I have to stop more often for fuel and, due to said space constraints, I don't have a microwave, grill, or pocket stove to cook up food in so I am going to have to buy my food in the ts. So, with all that being said I would say that it is up to the owner of the truck stop as to whether or not to charge for parking on their lot and it is up to us drivers if we want to pay for the use of that lot. However, I do feel that if someone is going to use the lot as a terminal and leave their truck and/or trailer for several days then they should pay if they are going to be leaving their equipment on the lot for more than 3 days. I have noticed on many lots they are now allowing you to park for free but you are limited to 24-48 hours there before you have to leave.

 

They should charge those who don't park in an actual spot. Drives me nuts when I get to a TS late and all the regular spots are filled and I'm forced to pay for reserved parking, only to find some cheap arse made his own spot, parked the long way across from me and now I have to pound on his door to get out. I guess that's what I get for doing what's right.

 

I think you should be required to buy fuel or other services to park. If no money spent then a fee should be charged to park on the lot. I am tired of being a coustomer and not being able to get a spot or being blocked in by someone. It would give t/s operators more rights to having trucks towed that don't belong.

 

This argument has been going for at least 40 years.

The guys who say "NO" need to ask themselves where the money comes from to pave the parking lots that they want to camp in. Who pays the people who clean it up? Who pays the property taxes for those 10-acre lots, if not the people who use them?

 

Didnt truck stops build their business around "Big Trucks" --- so they want to charge big trucks just to show up --not good business in my opinion!
If some of you guys and girls have trouble getting your companies to reimburse you for other things like Toll's etc --i cant wait to read the threads on parking fee reimbursement, oh wait -are you drivers to pay for that out of pocket ?
