    Hi, my team driver and I have been driving for contractor of FedEx Custom Critical both for over a year. I saw your post and wondered if your contractor is in need of a solid team. Also, if you know of any other contractors who might be interested please let me know. I've been searching for ways to contact FedEx Ground contractors, but to no avail.

    By the way, we're looking for something regional. We live in Fontana, CA area.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, anybody on this thread that can give me any details as far as becoming a contractor with fedex ground, What is a normal average of a fuel surcharge right now? i understand it fluctuates based on price of fuel, also how do they pay contractors per mile? Ive seen on their website that they have open routes in NC. Id like to learn as much as i can before I call them and possibly realize its not for me. Thanks in advance!!!

    Well almost a year since i started with this contractor and if I have learned one thing, it's that when it comes to Fedex it's all about the contractor you work for.

    Fedex I have come to realize are not the most organized company and sometimes you can sit for 24 hours especially if you arrive at a hub on Friday. Having said that everyone is reasonably polite and the trailers are always in good condition and well maintained. The main thing i like is getting home 2 days a week for being out 5, if we stay out 7 we get 3 off. Our contractor got us a new Kenworth T680 in September so no equipment complaints there either.

    What puzzles me is that although this guy is good to work for he struggles to get drivers, they either don't qualify or they don't want to drive.

    Like I said previously I get benefits and 401k and life insurance, I get a cash incentive each month if i din't need the benefits.

    Not much else to say, working out so far.

    FedEx Ground can be the best company you work for or the worst company you work for. It all depends on the contractor (the person/ppl who is/are your boss) you deal with. If you get a job with a guy who doesn't like to fix anything then you are in a world of hurt. The good thing about that is that FedEx periodically checks the truck to see if its fit to standard. Along with that FedEx is real strict on logs. They allow zero mistakes... which may or may not be a good thing for ya...

    I have a dedicated (which is the best thing in the world if I may be so bold) but I also did one week OTR with them... the OTR side is the pits... alot of waiting around... for a company that stresses you to be legal on your logbook, OTR wise, they cut it close to your 11/14 alot...

    If I would have to be a full time OTR with FedEx Ground, I think I'd possibly be better off with a company like Werner or something...although to be fair I hear teams make quite a bit...but who wants to team?

    So, things to know off the bat before coming to work for FedEx Ground;
    Benefits such as medical/dental depend on the contractor, not FedEx.

    You will wear a FedEx uniform.

    New contractors have very long waiting lists for dedicated runs due to the point system FedEx has in place... and even if you wait 20 yrs for a run, there's no guarantee you'll get it cause FedEx allows contractors to sell their truck numbers with their points, dedicated runs & independent contract business to the highest bidder...

    Have to disagree on the logs thing, you are given plenty of time to get to the hubs, my partner and i drive 10 a shift, are always at least 4 hours early and have never run close to our 70. We run the open board, do NJ and Florida a lot. Your right that they check the logs for errors, although you won't be fired for one or two.

    Agreed that your contractor is everything, I work for a true gentleman who fixes the truck pronto, has good benefits and 401K with company match, 45c a mile averaging 2500 a week. Couple that with 2 days off every week and its way better than Werner or the like. Obviously teaming is a problem for some folk.
