Many careers begin with unpaid or underpaid internships. Perhaps you were a cadet before becoming a deputy... Gotta pay your dues & weed out those just looking for an easy paycheck...

What a lot of guys dont get is that this job is not a 9-5, we get payed by the mile not hrs if that was the case i run 60 miles at 60mph in 60min x .30 = 18 a hr x 11hrs = 198 a day but it doesn't always work out like that just my .02 cents

Awareness, Nah, Im no threat....I have a lot of friends that are former po-po that turned truckers, along with my father who drove for 35+ yrs O/O after leaving State Troopers....It's not been hard breaking into this career because of my background and familiarity thanks to dad. The hardest battle I've fought is finding a good company, good pay and a CB handle that's fitting...lmao....:-/

NO my friend ,your math is spot on. Expect to live like a monk on a crusade your first year.I had a hefty $238 in my account after my first 32 days running team for CRST. Basically your first year is just a sacrifice. Later on you can earn some good money. Just being honest.

Sounds like your talking about Watkins Shepard. They are one of the better starter companies for sure. The down shift on a grade isn't something newbies should make a habit of. They just want to see you do it in case you fudge up in real life and start in the wrong gear. No real worries. Just drop the speed quickly and shift quickly.

Sounds like Watkins & Shepard. Good company, go for it. You've already been through driving school so you don't need a baby sitter; 10 days orietation to solo is good. As far as the downgrade shifting, many different opinions on that. My personal policy is pull out of the brake check area and be in the proper gear for the downgrade & speed limit when you hit the interstate so there's no downshifting on the downgrade. That's a good question to ask during orientation. I may get blasted for my answer on downgrades, but that's the way I did it for 30 years and never had a problem.

There's a couple of flatbed companies where you make good money but the best for a fresh graduate is tanker/hazmat and there's 4 companies that hire new grads for that.

As for you "handle", your avatar looks like a 21st century hitman or mercenary; so how about "Mercenary", "Hitman" is already taken on here. How about "Hired Gun".
