When you chose trk driving, did'nt you look at the pay first?Yes the pay sucks especially for trainees.I don't know how companies can get away with it.If you wasn't awar of trainees pay, what did the recruiter say to you that made you decide to drive for them?

NOPE.......I haven't made the move just yet...I was reading a comment on here in reference to someone making "the big bucks" running with one of the "Big 10" so I referenced their web site and it showed newbie pay. My training school doesn't endorse any particular company due to the fact that they sat on one of those "Big 10's" property....

I have l@@ked at a 100 or so different companies and they all pretty much look the same. Finding a diamond in the rough, I'm sure is out there but the search is incredibly overwhelming..I have spoke with one company that offered newbie pay at .32 plus drop/stop pay of $20 per. 3-4 stops per load. Average 2100 mi a week

Flatbed/stepdeck usually makes more money. There is more physical work involved, and more downtime involved. The work helps me fight the boredom. Current project is 3 loads a week 450 miles loaded 450 miles dead head back. Loads pay 2200 I get 500 of that.

Not sure if you are interested in flatbed stuff but to me it's a lot more fun, a lot less driving.

Local and regional pipe and lumber haulers tend to have it a little better off as far as pay goes, based mostly on trucker gossip tho so idk.

Trk driving is a very deceiving carreer. Its too bad companies, recruiters, websites, ads make it sound all glamourous. We have a spot just for you,you could make up to a thousand a week, ect ect.Don't believe anything recruiters say. They're going to say anything to get you hired so they make a commission on you.Any company that does a lot of advertising and says the same thing over and over are no good.Like CRENGLAND and JBHUNT.

Think about this for perspective, I know a young lady who is four years out of college with a BA degree & $80K in student loans employed now for two years making $32K a year. It's not easy out there for employees anywhere. Just sayin'!

Wooly Rhino that was an awesome post... and spot on...

The thing that is so mind boggling to me is how many new drivers believe that once you have gone through school and been out with a trainer you know all you need to know... that is just so far from true...

There is a lot to learn and many skills to develope to become a good driver.. with good time management and able to run effeciently...

I emjoy the challenge... I know what my company offers and it is up to me to make the most of it.. each week I improve and each week my paycheck is better than the last.. this last week I manage my time well enough to get another load in and 420 more miles on the check.. but, I also did much better with my costs.. I prepared meals in my truck, took advantage of all the free coffee I could find at shippers or recievers.. so not only did I make more this week.. I spent less doing it.. and had fun.. I was so pleased with my luchbox cooking that made other drivers try it..

Setting up and organizing my truck is a work in progress.. I keep learning little things that help me run more effectively...

I hold myself responsible and accountable for my success or failure... because it isnt just the company you work for... something I learned years ago..
Was learning to play guitar.. and wasnt as good as I wanted to be.. figured it was the cheap guitar I had.. and if I had a better one I wojld be a better player.. so, took my cheap guitar and a fist full on money to go trade up for a better guitar.. while kn the store this old man picks up my guitars and plays it.. and it sounded good.. that is when I realized.. #### it is me not the guitar that needs improving.. so I kept my money and the cheap guitar and practiced more.. and I did not upgrade til I could play that cheap gutar well.. then I went and got a Martin..

I feel the same way about trucking... I am new and still learning.. I can improve on my efficiency, I can improve on my time in and out of the stops.. I can improve on my driving.. and that is up to me.. running ineffective or inefficient with the best company is not the way to go... how bad would that suck to get on with the best company only to get fired because I needed more practice, more learning... I am with a good company to get my learning and practice in..

So with the complaining here about wages a person is better off staying with a job driving or not that pays like $13.00 an hour with occasional OT but not making more than say $30,000 a year and 2 to 3 days off a week. So that's what you guys are saying.

Who do you drive for? I have spoke with a flatbed company out of Bridgeport and I like the idea of flatbed. I don't want to end up "mushy" shape...lol.....Flatbed will help with the boredom and some good ole fashion hard work.....
