The 18 wheelers are causing problems? As opposed to the rice burners zipping in and out of traffic or the cars riding too close. People that drive trucks go to school for weeks or even months to learn how to drive safely, how long do you go to school to drive a car? Maybe the reason for the accidents is more the car drivers fault than the trucker. Oh, and by the way I'm not a trucker.

Well i'm going to try a different approach to this question........
First of all guest..........PLEASE tell me just how your judging this.
In other words..........where are you getting your facts...?

Because if you're simply asking this question based upon your fear of big trucks...!!! " It's not going to float " at least not in this forum.
All I want from you is.........numbers and a source where you've read or heard them from........i'll do the follow-up as far as research.

I'd like to know, when you go shopping for food, clothing, whatever you need or use....!!! Do you B_ _ ch about the trucker who delivered the products you buy daily....??? I know you'd never admit this........But without trucks.......You wouldn't have anything on the store shelves. The place you work at......If you work.........How would they send their products to market....? If you think for one moment the rail road industry could do the job..........THINK AGAIN...!!!

Before you go spouting off.........crunch these figures.

Conservatively...The American OTR driver averages 120 thousand miles a year ( Conservatively ) Keeping that in mind we have an approximately three million trucks on our roads today.

Please do the math......... The average auto driver may drive 13-14 thousand miles each year. Most OTR'Drivers will drive that much in a month and a half.

No doubt....we have some drivers who are not very courteous to say the least...!!! But to say " all you see are 18 wheelers causing problems everywhere " Thats stretching it......wouldn't you say....!!

In a way I hate to ask this.......but did you have a close family member or friend who was injured or killed in a truck/car accident...??

Or could it be you don't possess a great deal of people skills...??
As you might have already guessed......i'm a driver I have been for over 25 years. I take my job very seriously. I've never found myself complacent while working.

Let me ask you one final question.
How would you like it if I came to your job and messed with your work area...??
Wierd question for you....??? Well lets turn this whole thing around for one moment. Lets say you're an office worker. You have a desk with everything that goes along with the job. Phone, fax, etc, etc,

While you are on the phone or maybe filing papers. I come in unannounced and sit on your desk. Perhaps mess up your papers. And just make an all around nuisance of myself....!!! How long do you think you'd put up with that....??? 5 min...? 10 maybe...????????

We put up with that on a daily basis.... From cars who think just because we have air breaks we can stop on a dime. People who are rude. Who pass us up almost killing everyone in the vehicle doing it. Just to trun off a block down the street.

People who know how long it takes to get to work each morning. But want to shave off 2.3 min. I could tell you horor stories........about the human stupidity when it comes to driving.

Most professional drivers know if they get into an accident the odds are not in their favor. The statistics goes as followed........If a driver goes into a jack-knife type of wreck over 35 MPH. theirs a very good chance he or she will not walk away from this accident.

The exact facts and figures I do not have with me..........

What a pin-head the newspaper clip mentions within the first 5-6 lines the accidents have declined 10% over the last five years........

And I noticed this person has not mentioned a thing about what I had responed to...........lolol

Well guest you have yourself a very merry Christmas the whole time your are out shopping.........for all those Christmas gifts......try on to bad mouth the people who brought them to the stores too much ....lolol

Or when you are out getting all the fixings for that huge Christmas get=together....You know...when the whole family shows up and you have to feed the gang...lol Try not to think of the drivers who delivered it to the stores. That will probably ruin the whole holiday thing you have going on for you....lolol

And next time you cut and paste something from a news paper.....why not do yourself a big favor and read it first........merry Christmas to you and yours

hey 4 wheeling guest, let me point a few things out. An 18 wheeler takes a whole lot longer to stop than your 4 wheeler, even longer when its empty; so when something like fog occurs or some idiot 4 wheeler pulls in front of us and slams on breaks, be prepared for a crunch. Most truck drivers are professionals and like what was said earlier, many weeks are spent in school and going through hands on training in order to drive all of that safely and responsibly.

So blame physics and the foolish stupidity by some idiots driving 4 wheelers. I guess if the weight to gravity ratio of an 18 wheeler were the same as a 4 wheeler, then we wouldnt be having this conversation. And when you add up all of the miles driven by ALL 4 wheelers, number of cars, and count up the accidents in order to reach an accident ratio, I'll garaundamtee you that ratio will be a heck of a lot higher than if you add all
    18 wheelers-truck drivers-miles driven-accident ratio.

Now granted, there are some out there who shouldnt be driving 18 wheelers, but dont generalize and paint all of us with the same color as youve painted those guys. Theres a reason we're called professional drivers and theres a reason we make up less than 3% of this country's population.

They need to make 4 wheelers go through the same schooling and training that we went through.

    Ya..............but where would you start...?
My way of looking at it is............some people were never meant to drive. Cars or trucks. They simply do not have the mental gray-matter. between the ears to safely drive and do their make-up, or read the news paper, or thousands of other must do things while driving on our road ways lolol....Semper-Fi

    Okay, but why?
I think they need to learn how trucks operate.
I think most people can drive a car, but as why all know some cant.
I think 4-wheelers are just getting away with too much.
They are inconsiderate, dont care about what they do aslong as it benefits them, and are just in a rush.
I was reading a brochure, it says over the last few years people are driving more hostile, we know this we see it every day.
So if drivers of cars are getting more hostile and not being disciplined by authorities, that means, a person who just got their CDL will think he/she can drive the truck the same way they been driving their car.
I been driving some time now, and am pro trucker, cause I see that we are being harrassed.
The government says they want to keep fatalities down.
Trucks are involved in accidents that cause about 5000 fatalities a year. Of those 5000 fatalities, more then 70% the car is at fault.
Cars are involved in accidents that cause about 42000 fatalities a year.
So I think cars should be disciplined the same as truckers.
There will always be fatalities on the road. Truckers may be able to lower fatalities but its not going to go way down.
To save lives the government must cut down the 42000 fatalities caused by cars.

Thats right, I think they should give dot men the power to pull off the bad drivers off the road. Dot man, what do you think about swift drivers? What company overall do you see the worst drivers from?
