Werner Driver with a ??

You need to read you green book. Pretrip needs to be logged as ON DUTY PTI (pretrip), fifteen minutes in fine. As far as time goes, 15 minutes on duty shouldn't be the end of the world. You have 14 hours to "work", 11 of which can driving. At the end of the day, when you do a post trip inspection, you can simply change duty statues to ON DUTY PTI (post trip inspection). The green book states that you must log the inspection, but does not specify a set amount of time to do it in. Just simply record it. I understand that you are trying to use the whole time period to make distance, BUT, you need to plan each day so that you have a buffer if something was to go wrong.
Think about it, how far are you going to get in 15 to 20 driving, especially during rush hour. You need to plan your day out to the "letter". (shipper, receiver, fuel 30 minute break, travel time through congested areas, etc.)

Don't take this wrong, but after five years of trucking, I would expect time management to not be an issue. Then there is the issue of not knowing the regs in the green book concerning logging inspections. (I'm not beating up on you, just making a comment)

I used to run like that, but I found out that if I just "planned everything", and allowed for myself enough time in the day just in case something went wrong, I found that I still could make the miles for the week, still make a good paycheck for my family and still have fun doing it.

Just making sure. The chances of stopping within 10 minutes of a truck stop, rest area or safe place are slim.

 

If you don't log your pretrip why log anything else?Im surprised you're still there or has Werner given you a warning along with a test on the HOS?Far as the DOT checking your logs,they never asked to check mine the 3 yrs I was with Werner.Then you wait till the last minutes on your clock to find a safe haven,thats a silly thing to do.How long have you been with Werner?

 

You should log 15 minutes for pretrip. As for your post trip you can flag it. Some companies want you to log 15 minutes for it though. As far as running out of time to do a post trip, that is not an issue, you can log on duty after your 14 is up and not be in violation. The 8, 11, 14 and 70 hour rules all apply to driving alone. You can log on duty for non-driving work until the cows come home and no one will care. Just remember to log off to get that reset in.
