Yes. It is the utility light on the back of the cab. The catwalk is referred to as the "porch."

Somebody mentioned CVW McCall. Wof Creek Pass, Convoy.

Lots of CB/Trucker songs back in the slang days. Red Sovine had a few. Phantom 309 was my favorite. He also had Teddy Bear. Merle Haggard's White Line Fever. Jerry Reeds Eastbound and down from Smokey and the Bandit.

Not all trucking songs had to do with CB but the CB craze sure made them popular. Seems these songs have gone the way of CB slang.

    No mam,

There were so many back in the day. Dave Dudley was probably the truckinest singer out there.

Well I gotta go now, gimme 40 acres and I'll turn this rig around, I'm gone....:biggrin_25525:

My Uncle who my CB Handle is in memory of is the one who got me into the Trucker music along with another Trucker friend who helped me get my CB radio. So I have Red Sovine, CW McCall, Dave Dudley, Jerry Reed and more in a folder titled "Trucker Songs" in my Ipod that they got me into. :) I even have their CDs as well too. Oh did you know that Jerry Reed came up with the rhythm for "East Bound and Down" because of all the bumps in the road along I-30 and I-40? I didn't realize how until I drove it one day after first getting my license 6 years ago and just laughed at how it made sense. Also My Uncle Bob (Sleepy) was driving solo when I was a kid after Smokey & The Bandit came out and happened to be driving I-40 through TN. Well he was trying to stay awake and got on his radio and low and behold "Snowman" (aka Jerry Reed) answered back and talked to him until he could get somewhere to stop for the night helping him stay awake. Well another time going through there he ran into Jerry Reed at a truck stop where he had stopped for gas himself as well and got to tell him thank you for talking to him. Jerry Reed from what I was told by my Uncle was a former truck driver as well before he became a star. So hope that story brings a smile to your face BigBearNY. :)

There are a whole lot of stories about Jerry Reed out there. Apparently he was a genuine "regular guy". Although I don't know if he ever professionally drove a truck as he was signed to a recording contract while still in High School as I remember, it would not surprise me if he did some truckin'. He had several driving and truckin movies besides his 3 Smokey and the Bandit movies, such as Highballin, Gator and Stroker Ace. A lot of folks were sad to see him go.

You did make me smile with the stories of Jerry Reed talking on the CB. What great fun!

My grandson and I share a hobby. We like to race and collect slot cars. A hobby I have had since the 60's when I was a young boy. If you are unfamiliar, they are scale electric cars that run on a slotted track that a pin on the car or truck fits in. He and I have watched the first Smokey and the Bandit movie. He enjoyed it so much I have started building working slot car models of Burt Reynolds' (Smokey) Trans Am, Jackie Gleason's (Sheriff Buford T. Justices) Pontiac police cruiser and as you may have guessed, Jerry Reed's (the Snoman) Kenworth including a fully decorated trailer. While doing research for the model I found one of the snoman trailers is on display in a farm field in Georgia. One of my sons moved down there... It's on my list of things to see when I visit!

Big Bear that is a really cool story. Thank you for sharing it. I always enjoyed hearing my Uncles tell me their trucking stories and still do. Yea I remember those cars when I was little my brother had one of those tracks he would play with all the time. You know another thing you might want to do with your son is visit all three Cooter's Places that Ben Jones (aka on the radio as Crazy Cooter like he was on the show) has. He has one in Gatlinburg and one in Nashville, TN and then one in Branson, MO at the dixie outfitters store there. That and go to one of the Dukes events where all the stars go and hang out with their fans and sign things. I have met John Schneider, James Best, Rick Hurst, Don Pedro, Ben Jones, and Byron Cherry at an event that was held in Sevierville, TN. They are really cool people and have always enjoyed hearing stories from the truckers and about their hobbies like what you just did here. So thought I would throw that idea out there for you. Yes Ben Jones talks on the CB so listen for "Crazy Cooter" and his signature line "Breaker (whatever channel he is on) Breaker ??, I might be crazy but I sure aint dumb. This is Crazy Cooter coming at ya." :) He told me this is how I know. ;-)

I knew it was breaker one I just put whatever channel because he talked on the radio with his friends so it meant whatever channel he was talking on at the time. LOL
