    this guy thought for himself. If there is one, Im sure there are many more of them.

    These things are coming. Im not sure you can fight the technology that is coming down the line.
    You might want to focus the fight on the the HOS regs.

    No big deal.

    They will just declare and emergency and throw the hours of service out till they are restocked.

    one of the things i hated about the POS'S during my brief use. was having to log in just to fire up the truck for a/c.

    and if they take away the personal conveyance. that means parking us permanently on our 34's. no more dropping the trailer to go shopping or a movie or whatever. basically just SITTING. that to me is way overboard.

    basically, if we're in the truck. we have to call up anne ferrow to see if it's ok to do SOMETHING. and if she says no. we're screwed.

    and THEY can't figure out why no one wants this job.

    I imagine they will restrict the personal conveyance since the proposal wants the time, miles and ending with the miles on it. In addition, when the truck is started and turned off it looks like it will be required to note the location as well.

    It is not a fun document to read. The scary part is that they did the same thing with the last three log hours of service changes and they became fact.

    That would apply if the carrier did not have a direction in place that stated the driver may use off duty, even at customer, if they are not doing anything work related. See page 8 of this FMCSA publication. If I am not doing any work for the carrier, and the carrier conditions have been met for off duty, even at the customer location, off duty is allowed even at the location.

    http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/documents/hos/Interstate-Truck-Driver-Guide-to-HOS_508.pdf

    On Page 7, read.....

    All time at a plant, terminal, facility, or other property of a motor carrier or shipper, or on any public property, waiting to be dispatched, unless you have been relieved from duty by the motor carrier;

    My carrier has policy in place that once at the dock, I can consider myself off duty, as per the FMCSA regulations above. If I was totally independent, I would be the carrier, so I could make the determination legally as well. Not really my problem some idiot LEO cannot read this stuff for himself and would like to put me OOS. No problem. A speed dial call to my attorney, and Barney is not going to feel so proud about how he does his job.

    That was company policy and not FMCSA or Anne Ferro. I use Elogs, I use PC at least once a week. Used it today. I dropped the trailer in town where I live and bobtailed to the house PC OFF DUTY on the Elog. No violation. Only carriers themselves have taken away PC or placed additional restrictions on its use. The Elog has nothing to do with it. PC is allowed in FMCSA regulations, on paper or Elog. Put the blame where it should be. As much as I don't care for the FMCSA and all of their stuff they dream up, I won't blame them for something they have nothing to do with. Blame who should be blamed.... the carrier.

    i guess owner ops can no longer drive to a service station ,fire it up to do his own oil change or other numerous things currently able to do unless they go line 4 .its bad enough they control our work week, now they want to force us to log our downtime to the tee as well .they give convicted felons more freedom than a so called professional driver what a world we live in .makes a guy scared to see what his grandchildren will have to deal with

    You can get "form and manner" violations for not updating trailer numbers, BOLs, approving logs, etc.
