Anyone out there running a late model Volvo with a D16 550HP?
I'd like to hear what your fuel mileage is in the winter if for both infield, as well as Super B work.
Anyone out there with the following specs?
D16 550 HP, 1850 Torque, with 3:91 axle with Eaton Fuller 18 speed manual. 24.5 tires.
46 Rears, Mid-roof. If you could include what your truck is using in DEF fluid as well would
be helpful to me.
Thanks

Perhaps the reason you are not getting a lot of responses is because a lot (if not most) of the newer Volvos with the D16 have the automatic transmission. Pulling Super-B's on the highway I have been comparing new Volvo mileage (with auto trans) against new Paccar products with the Cummins ISX15 and Eaton 18 speed manual transmission. The Volvo gets substantially better mileage but that probably has a lot to do with the way the automatic transmission operates the motor (which is better than any driver can do, despite what drivers, including myself, may think). So far less shop time for the Volvo than the Kenworths and Peterbilts. The DPF system on the Volvo is affected by cold weather and idling but is not nearly as bad as the Cummins DPF system.

ive just been wondering if anyone had a Fuller?
I won't know if I don't ask. First Volvo I've owned.
But I appreciate the input! -
I haven't had the latest EPA Volvo, but the one I've had (in my sig) had around same power output as yours (before tuning) with 13 Eaton box. I had around 7-7.5 US mpg. loaded to 80K gvw. and around 8-8.5 empty or lightweight. That pulling the reefer through west coast, mountains and straights combined. Not sure how would it do infield with 120K gvw.

Hey Sara, my apologies for reviving this dead thread. I have a heavy spec vnl630, mid rise roof with D16 550 hp with ishift 12 speed AMT 46 rears with 3.73 ratio. I was getting about 2.0 km/l (4.7 mpg) driving infield pulling a tridem tanker. now I pull tridems with 40 foot sea cans on the highway. Now I am up to 2.5 km/l (5.88 mpg, still sucks). I actually am in the process of specing out a vnl 670 with d13 500 hp with better aerodynamics for better fuel efficiency on the highway. Do you have any suggestions? BTW I think a lot of stuff said about the Volvos is BS. I ran it in the patch for 2 years and didn't have much problems with it.

2014 vnl 730 xe16 500/2050 ishift 12, 13/46 3:21 ratio hauling 63,500kg 5.1mpg (imperial mpg) 3 other volvo trucks on the same run all specs are different as far as gear ratio and power and all get 5 mpg

I'm getting about 6 even now. Thought that was bad for this truck

I drive a manual 2006 VT 880 with 550 HP, 1850 lb/ft and my fuel mileage was always the same, around 6.5-7 MPG. If I'm light I can got to 7.5/ Empty is around 8. The truck likes to pull tho.
