I am being recruited by a couple of YRC drivers who are looking to fill their driver quota, i was told that ill b working tues , thurs n sat with a couple of lay overs. Its a bid job n they`re offering it to me. Where,,,, is irrelevant considering that i dont want anyone getting any bright ideas quite frankly. I believe that they're pursuing me cause I am a usps truck driver. I was thinking that if i can look at there board when i go in for an interview to verify that they only have currently 6 road drivers out of 8. Im sure yall may think that im crazy to leave the USPS but im only making $16.57 hr n we only get moderate overtime. The pay sucks n we get treated like crap cause new guys are not really welcomed here. Im fed up n ready to move on. Any advice about the YRC thing. Thanks.

Same crap different job. Inept management. Do not expect to have anything solid at any ltl until 10 + years seniority. Especially Yellow. Might take 15-20

any yard with only 8 road drivers is a satellite yard not a hub. You want to work at a hub.

You should be walking into a nice situation. That's most likely 3 layovers a week. I work at a terminal with similar road driver numbers as the one you may work at.
There should be more than enough work. I hope you like working nights and weekends though, it's all their going to have. Depending on the location you should be
able to take a weekend off at least once per month.

Anybody telling you you're gonna come in off the street&get a BID at a Union Barn is full of ####! They only have to bid 60%(or something around that-varies by region &regional contract)And only very very rarely does anyone come in as anything but a casual--&even once(if)you are offered full time status--You are still gonna be on call till you gain enough seniority to be able to bid--& then bids are won by seniority---Wanna know how it really works in your area?? Go to the hall and ask the BA--who will lay it all out including showing you the Current Contract.....

Just the fact that they only have 6 road drivers out of 8 he says. So they build 12 trailers a night that is 6 sets. Six regular sets a night equal 6 bids at best the rest Extra board. They do not have a lot of freight and extra board guys sometimes rake it in and other times do not expect to work at all and be asking for a lay off.

They may need 8 road guys when it is busy but when it is slow he will be laid off. They are probably forcing local guys in to moving a set or two in to the break bulk center and they want them to hire people so they can go home.

I am guessing this is like a 20 door terminal. Yellow will not have any problem running a road driver out from a break bulk dropping a couple break out trailers and grabbing this small terminals road sets and bypassing the no senority new road drivers. Because freight is to irregular to bring back guys from lay off.

After reading y'all replies i'm not sure if i should leave the USPS , like i said the pay sucks n the schedule is worst. I made more money in 98 when i started driving. I can deal with bad management n even sour drivers if the pay is gd, but when the pay sucks then its hard to deal with the crap. I guess I'll wait till the interview n go from there. I'll try n get all the facts, im currently talking to the trustee to the union he's the one trying to help me get in. I dont really have a set schedule at the USPS n work pm n am n if i get over 40 hrs is cause guys are having their vaca time. The union by far is very very weak n grievances take months to get settled if not longer, its all messed up here. I would not recommend this job to a guy down on his luck with a CDL .

Sounds like YRC! I work for YRC (Reddaway) and it's not too bad. I was on call for the first year and then got a bid. That's Reddaway though. When I worked for YRC our parent company out of San Bernardino, CA, there were no bids in sight. First month I was casual after that I was full time. They said I could be expected to be on call for 5+ years. Now I've always heard that the satellite terminals will hire you right into a bid. The small ones usually only hire when they really need someone. So I'd say it's worth a try, but you still might be casual for the first month or so just because of the contract. Good luck.

What do you mean by BA, the whole seniority thing is pretty accurate remember that there's only 6 drivers out of 8 with no part timers nor casuals for the road side of things. The last guy that went in went is doing a bid run, while it isn't his bid it's available to b filled any ways like the 2 that are still open. Like I said I'll look into with more detail with the BA or at the interview.

Well I live in an area with a lot of commercial traffic via containers ships and trains and a lot of military bases , the freight is here I would think but how they actually running at YRC right now at that location is the question. I've talked to the current drivers and they are busy and short handed on the road driver side of things, they actually didn't have a slow period this past winter in there usual slow period month or months. I hope that it all works out for me.

that is untrue! When I worked at YRC when I transferred I was able to get onto a bid right away. It wasn't the best bid but I was able to hold it and keep it. My last 2 months I had one of the best, a 450+ miles a night and a nice paycheck.

when is as hired at UPSF I was once again hired right on a road bid.
