Does anyone know of any software or add-ons where you could plug in "from Denver, CO" then plug in "to Edison, NJ" and the software would animate a filled line starting from Denver and ending at Edison. Ultimately, I'd like to input several dozen cities in a particular order, then have the software build a line (plotting the route, in order) using "fastest routing" or perhaps "practical miles" (maybe have the option to where the previous 200 miles "tail" fades out as the route continues, or leave the entire route highlighted) and could speed or slow the animation, and could output this animation into a video or animation file???

I've used something very similar to build 2d elevation profiles, useful data, and images for all the major and minor Colorado passes (that trucks use) obtained from actual high-res GPS/elevation data recordings ... but for what I'm trying to do here, it seems a bit overly difficult and time consuming, as I only want simple 1d "paths" that animate from point A to point B. But thanks for the tip. I may be able to use this elsewhere.

CoPilot Truck does all of that except it does not inherently have any "output animation" function. I used a screen recorder program in this case to record everything as a video clip. I think I showed everything you had asked.

I appreciate the work you did. It's worth looking into and get's me closer. Ultimately I'd like a visual like you often see in movies and cartoons showing the "family trip" on a map, sped up ... excpet maybe 6 months worth of OTR driving compressed to 2 minutes

Ahh. So that alters things. Are you wanting a "tracker" that is tracking 6 months worth of travel? Because what I showed was the example where I plugged in the starting and ending points you gave and then ran 3 practical truck route options, then chose one and clicked playback.

This program will do what I showed with up to 50 stops. So you could have all of these criss-crossing routes for up to 50 different trips that you did. But the only way I can think of that would speed it up to show 6 months in two minutes would be to start the trip playback and record that as a video. And then use MovieMaker, or VLC player (or whatever video editor) to force it to play at 10 or 20 times normal speed. Not saying that it doesn't exist in the world. By I don't know of it. But I only do truck route stuff. Maybe Google Earth or some other add-on for one of the map sites like Google Maps, Mapquest, etc can do what you are saying.

No, don't want to store bread crumbs or tracking points then plot these because I haven't been doing this and don't wish to. I want to be able to plug in beginning and ending points (city/St), in order (like unlimited via's or waypoints) then have it go from point to point to point until it reaches the end of the "file"

i know i'm late to the party, and have no first hand knowledge of it, but how about primap? the tutorials should let you know in a couple minutes if this is what you're looking for and it's free.

That may be exactly what I'm looking for. Will just need to determine how to go about inputting "city centers" and how many I can put into a "very long route"
