You can do that, but I would think that going to a school would make it look better for you. one issue may be insurance but not likely unless the company has had problems before. The other issue is you will have to sell yourself, which means not BSing about what you know or admit what you don't know.
Overall it is better to go to school.

Okay, I will preach and make a lot of folks angry. Most colleges are not needed if you stop and think about it. You learn your job on the job. Many places require a four year degree but the knowledge you pick up during that four years is never used. Doctors and lawyers have to have a four year degree in most cases before they can go to medical or law school. Why? To keep the supply of doctors and lawyers limited. What does that have to do with your question?
As professional drivers we want to keep our wages up also. Can you get hired by a company that does not require you to have a school? Probably but I am not going to help you. Doing so devalues my having gone to a community college. Your wanting to get your CDL cheap makes me think that you are the type that would cross a picket line if I was striking for higher wages.
It is therefore my choice to not help you in this matter. In fact, I am rooting against you. So I close with this......Boooooooooooooooo -
What kind of work are you looking for. Otr,local? I grew up around trucks and have had a passion for them since i can remember. A good friend of mine owns a grading company and he let me use his truck to take the test, in return, i worked for him until it was time for better opportunities. I was 18 when i obtained my CDL and worked for him until i was 22. Now i pull tankers and have the nicest truck in the fleet (probably the charotte area) and make dang good money. Moral of the story, find a local company looking for drivers and are willing to help you out. its NOT going to be the best job out there but it will get you a cdl and seat time. Thats what all the carriers are looking for. Or a big carrier that offers training school. That wouldnt be my choice though.

I regained my CDL last year without going through school, then drove three months as a codriver with my O/O brother who was leased on with a small company. Then Swift hired me with the three months experience in lieu of school. I had to then complete their full training program.
Yes, it can be done. Ask the recruiter how many months experience they will accept instead of school. Hire on as a codriver with an O/O to get that experience. -
look up custom harvesters the best training you will ever get and you will be paid to learn.

I changed it to what I think he intended.Big Don Thanks this. -
I see a lot of BS flying around here. Anyone saying that you can't get hired without going through a CDL school doesn't know what they're talking about. The company I work for hires new drivers who haven't attended driving school and I can count about a dozen others in my area that do the same. It amazes me the number of members here who talk about that which they know nothing about.

I don't think anybody would encourage him to go to work for one of the slave outfits that puts you through their school, in return for 100 years of indentured servitude. . .
