I bet you wouldn't be sitting around much if they had to pay you for you're time huh? ,i haven't been OTR in many yrs and i wouldn't even consider it ....the money is just not there ,that job is for old guys that are settled in marriage and grown children or for young single guys and gals that don't mind bein alone in life .....IF YOU ARE YOUNG AND MARRIED WITH CHILDREN DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SUPPORT YOU'RE FAMILY WITH OTR TRUCKING ...it's hard on ANY marriage ,it's hard on ALL you're babies ,it's hard on you're pocket book ....get a local UNION JOB ,family first ,these mega fleet trucking outfits are a joke not to mention all the welfare they are getting off the backs of good men and women and our government
so i think you get it now ....local ,union ,and willing to work ...remember it's family firstToomanybikes, Rick_C, TruckrWnnaB and 2 others Thank this. -

At least you put your triangles out, although they look too close together for my taste.

I would get rid of that pic or block your truck number, Roehl will blackball your DAC now. The truth of the matter is by working two jobs now in such a short time you screwed yourself. The cold hard truth is you made the mistake of going with 2 mega-carriers without doing enough research, and pretty much no trucking job other than bottom feeders will want to touch you. Most local companies that are worth their weight in bovine excrement wont touch anyone with under a year of experience, and even that is stretching it.
The reason a lot of us are still OTR after 6, 8 , 10, 15 years is that most local companies can be nearly as bad. Who wants to be home every night if home every night means home for barely enough time for your head to hit the pillow, and mandatory overtime because they cant afford to hire more local drivers? Half of the time the work ends up being more stressful, more unbearable, more responsibility with less pay, and you end up being a short-haul driver with not even a sleeper to relax in while you get screwed at a dock or waiting in line.
If you really want to make driving a career you need to fine tune yourself, spread your wings, and make yourself stand out in a good way. If OTR drivers are such fat slobs (and I agree a good percentage are) set yourself apart by being a more professional , better driver. Unfortunately for new drivers in this day in age that means either toughing it with a bottom feeder that you can stand to work for for a year or two, or by the grace of God being one that does enough research and finds a decent starter company.
And remember, its not just a career change, its a complete lifestyle change. The gray haired guy in his mid 50's that passes you in the hammer lane in a shiny, chromed out W900 worked hard for the past 30 years to get there. I've been at it on and off for over 10 years, and still haven't quite found what I'm looking for.Last edited: May 6, 2014
Nightwind8830 Thanks this. -
Im not worried about a DAC report. I am a good worker. I am just not going to waste my time or ruin my family life for a sleezeball operation -
Guess that makes them a little bit better than average.Redriderex and GabeScott Thank this. -
I work for a local concrete company in Austin TX. We operate Mixers, End-dumps and dry bulk tankers. Our turn over rate is nearly non-existent. We are payed hourly plus over time. Most of our guys come from past OTR jobs, a lot of old-timers. The problem is is that we work 15 hours per day with only 8 hours between shifts 24/7. When you only have 8 hours to step out of the truck, get home, sleep and arrive back at the truck within 8 hours, you are lucky to get a 4-5 hour nap for days and weeks on end. It's exhausting to say the least! I am now seeking a job with an OTR or regional position so I can have 10 hours off with a bed in the back to crawl into. I've done this for 10 years and I feel that I have pushed my luck safety wise. It's time for a change. My point to all this is, it aint all gravy local! You wont spend time with your family much because you are in the truck or at home exhausted trying to sleep just to get up in a rush to get back to that #### truck. Also, local equipment can be horribley unsafe and uncomfortable.
Oh, and the vast majority of the guys that I work with ARE socially retarded Neanderthals and couldn't hold a job that requires face to face contact with human beings. They are incapable of doing anything else, sorry but its a fact. One of my best friends that I work with is one of those Neanderthals. They are a lot of fun to work with.Lonesome, DirkSteel, loose_leafs and 3 others Thank this.
