30 ft between 2 trucks at highway speeds? Um.....No.......I believe safe following distance is 1 second for every 10ft of truck, and then 1 additional second for any speed over 40mph....30 feet? I wont even do that in my car

So how many frequencies are going to be needed with hundreds of trucks on the road. If one brakes do they all break?

they idea is to have ALL trucks rolling and parking at the same time. as a whole. one frequency will be all that's needed. :biggrin_25525:

The stopping distance, we've been taught to leave between trucks is because of the human reation time. How much distance is actually needed if both trucks brake at the same time.
Look at the number of people able to talk on cell phones in a given area and each call uses 2 different frequencys. With digital, it's more than enough.

And it'll never be totally driverless. All the same things were said years ago about cruise control and now not very many truck drivers can run without that.

I'm all for getting computers to drive the trucks.

Imagine the convoy we could get going.

that's a lot of money spent just so 2 trucks could use the brakes at the same time with the same pressure.

wonder how much it'll cost to do the rest of the job we have to do. like turn the steering wheel, fuel truck and get receipt, load and unload, and not hit deer.
