The kicker is if you have any deadhead at all, and I'm not talking much, all of a sudden $2.00-$2.50 a mile becomes $1.50 a mile. Every mile you turn counts. Can't just sweep deadhead miles under the carpet. This company like almost every company out there, probably has ZERO clue what the actual TOTAL miles their o/o are driving. ...that is what they don't tell you. They will hype that cheap $2.00-$2.25 a mile freight like it is the best thing since beer in a can though. Compared to typical flat rate leases it APPEARS great but like said, it is the same thing when some deadhead miles grind it to nothing....

    That's dispatcher speak.

Some companies will advertise $2-2.5 a mile. That's ALL IN(gross line haul, plus fuel SC....etc). Or it may be $2 gross line haul. If your percentage is 65%, that's $1.30 a mile to the truck. If it's 75%, that's $1.50 a mile to the truck. And most of the time, that's just for loaded miles. And fuel sc is usually just for loaded miles. Add in deadhead miles, and...you get the picture. You will make about as much as a company driver on a good day.

i'm guessing the answer/excuse for the stagnant wages is the new cost of all the regulations added in the last 13 yrs that affect the companies' bottom lines. and with the drastic spike in fuel costs, the cost of consumer goods has increased as well, and if compnies started paying drivers 400% more it would only compound the problem amd drive down business. it's no secret that drivers are the ones who bend over amd take it in the caboose in hard economic times. the only thing you can do is find a nice little niche market to drive in

There's a difference if you pull your own trailer also VS pulling the truck co's trailer. Also, there's the FSC, not included in the "per mile" pay. Truck co's can be very "creative" when discussing pay.

Talked to three aw owner ops. All seemed extremely happy there. If I didn't have it good already I'd go in a heartbeat
