No one is forced into trucking, it is a choice, which means for many they have no job opportunities and this is the last stop before living in a box under an overpass.
Oversize or Heavy Haul the best as I see the numbers.
Oil field work may pay good but the rest, I don't know.
Ice road trucking isn't like what the TV show is from everything people told me - I have someone who did haul road work for years working for me and he thinks the show is a joke.
Easy ... learn how it works in the business world first then in this industry. Oh ... Learn how to talk to a lawyer if you are a contractor to get the contract reviewed and to send letters when you don't get paid but overall it has to do with being a professional, when someone who takes this serious enough as a profession (like a doctor or pilot) and they get ripped off, they have an exit strategy for the company and money to absorb the loss so they don't have to worry about making the next car payment.
I don't know, that's like asking if there is a McDonald's that serves tofu somewhere on earth. It all depends on where you are at, not me. Some Canadians make great money while others make less than I do (which isn't a lot this past week).
Again it depends on where YOU are at.
I don't believe a person should drag kids into a truck, this is a dangerous job and it is one where if you have to worry about your brat who is riding in the sleeper or in the passenger seat but nt the situation around you, you need to be in another job/profession.
Why are you concern?
We won't see hyperinflation here unless the conditions are really right and they won't be for a long time.
I too have a '97 cummins in the drive, I am looking at it right now and it just survived super high winds and a near lightning strike this evening. IT IS NOT like a truck or tractor.

Do you actually realize how small that space is in the truck to live in?
Do an experiment.
Make your largest closet in your home into a living space, then stuff all of you in there for 2-4 weeks.
No kitchen, no bathroom, no shower... just, maybe 1 or 2 power outlets for 12V stuff.
And for that kitchen and bathroom and shower stuff - don't shower anyone for at least 3 days, make everyone wait 1 hour before they can pee, and eating is optional.DrivingForceBehindYou Thanks this. -
As a banker with 19 years in Nigeria as well as many other countries, let me answer 6 for you. Hyper inflation only effects savings. It is really not a big deal unless you are sitting on a lot of cash. I am not. If you are a strong believer in hyper inflation then you should buy as much hard items now as you can. Buy a new truck. Buy a couple of new trucks. Buy a big house. Buy a vacation home. Buy Buy Buy. Inflation pays off debt. If the US economy keeps running up debt then at some point dollars will have to be printed to pay off the debt. What good is that? Well, China will have trillions of US dollars that will only be worth something here. They either wipe their butts with the bills or they order US products. That is if they don't just buy up US farms. If a large demand for US goods is on the horizon it can only be good for truckers.
Trucking companies with long term freight contracts could go under. So avoid buying large trucking companies stock.ushasjude and DrivingForceBehindYou Thank this. -

Anyone know about viewing a forum thread that requires a password? I was reading various threads that now I can not. For example:

but my settings/subscriptions of my account says I am subscribed.
I get a link in my email from replys to my replys in the threads, but when I click to read I get:
"Your administrator has required a password to access this forum. Please enter this password now."
I do not mind not being invited or something if that is how it works, I just do not understand. I signed up because I found TTR to be really handy, and thought the community was really helpful, and so forth. I still do, but am learning the ropes of the site. Sorry if this is a really dumb/ignorant question. -

I do not know if you realize, but thoughts from these sorts of experiences are very valuable to us (in my opinion) that saw things a little from an outside perspective. Ferfal in Argentina, and a fellow posting about what the hard times were like in Sarajevo, are poignant and helpful for example. I am sorry for the heartache it takes for us to hear what happened second hand.
I have been trying to understand what you mean by the long term contracts, but have not figured it out. Sorry for being slow. Is this because of lack of flexibility with payment/prices or something? -
