Did you go to Swifts school or get your CDL sponsored through them? If so do you intend on paying them back? Have you looked in the Swift section in the motor carriers section here? Some of those drivers have been with Swift for quite awhile and seem to get along fine working there. Swift does have several opportunities including local, flatbed and dedicated in some areas if that's what you want. I understand looking down the line farther but why did you even go with them if you're looking to get out before you even get in? From what I've read here you could do a lot worse than Swift as they do have other options some companies don't have.

That's good. Are there any other companies that take new drivers where you live that you would stay at? If there are then, just go there and bypass Swift if you can. Schneider or Knight should hire out of CA.

I want to stay at swift for now.,......

Carolina Cargo pays teams .20/mile split (translation: each driver gets .10/mile), and they slip seat trucks.
When I worked there, the week went like this:
1) Pick up a truck & co-driver at the terminal, load all your crap.
2) Load (usually dry goods) on east coast, drive to west, unload.
3) Sit & wait for a load. No idling, now!
3a) Wait more. Might want to get a hotel room, but don't expect the company to spring for it.
4) Load (usually produce) on west coast, drive back to the east coast, unload.
5) Turn in truck, empty out all your crap. No, you can't keep the truck unless they had a load going back out that same day (usually don't).
Your opinion that Swift sucks illustrates your inexperience. They're a mega, all megas have their benefits and drawbacks. Hell, even CR England & CRST. It's the mom & pop shops you have to actually worry aboutChinatown Thanks this. -
My opinion is that im doing research.Chinatown Thanks this. -
The best advise that has been offered so far is "stay where you are for at least 1 year". If you are happy and content well your good to go, if not move on to what you perceive as greener pastures. I can assure you of this, the mega carriers will keep you busy, running and turning! As long as those wheels are turning you will earn! Learn how to manage your DOT clocks and keep those wheels turning!
