Wouldn't you know it? Son is going to orientation in three weeks and his hard drive just crashed. None of us has any extra money to fix it until the week after he goes. Does he really need a computer for the first few weeks?
Doesn't help that his smartphone is acting up, too, but hoping Sprint can help us over the phone.
Computer needed for orientation and training?

No what would he need it for?
-
No he doesn't need a computer at school. Half the drivers aren't even computer savvy. He can take notes with pen and paper but all the info is in the driver's manual and you study straight from it.
He can do without Facebook for 3 weeks.
With hard work he can buy a new laptop on his own.Balakov100, Ebola Guy, Aminal and 3 others Thank this. -
He'll be extremely bored for the first few days/weeks but that'll pass. He'll be fine.
broodmom Thanks this. -
Who said he needed a computer.Sure he may have to take tests at the company which is done on the computer but he won't need one.But the phone yes,try and get that fixed before he leaves.

Since he's somewhat computer-oriented elogs should come naturally to him. Been on a computer since he was four. -
He won't need a laptop all the big carriers are implanting chips in their brains now or soon.
No does not need a laptop, he just needs some paper and pen. That is just another thing he will have to pack around all day. Clothes, toothbrush, and some clothes.broodmom Thanks this. -
Computers are not a necessity, they are a luxury.

Im in training and went through orientation 2 weeks ago. You do not need a smartphone for either and you most definitely, for no possible reason whatsoever need a laptop.
I am using both daily but its mostly on downtime and just because im a techfiend but i recognize that the two have assissted my progress of becoming a Professional Truck Driver, again, in no way whatsoever.broodmom Thanks this. -
As others have said, he really doesn't need a laptop for school. He should be studying the stuff he get's in class, not playing World of Warcraft anyway. Do get the phone fixed or a cheap pay-per month flip phone.
Cloths, snack's, boot's, personal hygiene items ( soap/shampoo combo saves space) & shower bag... pillow & sleeping bag, if he's going to be riding with a trainer in that person's truck. ( duffle of clothing can be used instead of a regular pillow, just put a pillow case over it case the fabric is scratchy).
Front money til good paycheck's start coming in are much more important that a new laptop.broodmom Thanks this.
