I agree, the only thing that talks is money now. They lose a little of it, theyd have a lot more incentive to quit laying trucks around. They are lucky Im not head of D.O.T., I would have fixed the problem a long time ago!LOL Id lay one of them $$$ per hour fines on them. And with all the technology they have now, it would be an easy case to prove.
Any hope the 34 hour rule will get repealed?

I say get rid of the 70 hour rule and just run 11 and 14 hour rules. But yeah, good luck with that one LOL

I don't like the new 8 hour rule because I don't need a full 30 minutes to grab a bite to eat, and it restricts me to taking a meal break when 'the rule' dictates instead of when I NEED to take it.
If I want to stop 2 hours into my shift I'll end up having to take yet another 30 before I finish.
Two 1-5 periods is even more lame, because WE don't decide when our 34 starts. It starts when we finish the load before the 34, not at a certain time of day.
That said, these rules were put into effect to protect drivers from companies that abuse drivers.
They are there to try and allow us to get the breaks and rest periods that we need to function safely.
The lawmakers hearts might be in the right place, but their brains are totally out the window.70s_driver, hawkjr, NavigatorWife and 1 other person Thank this. -

My point is that Lawmakers no longer make laws. They rubber stamp stuff done by lobbyist and Regulatory Agencies. People vote for the same old people. No one came to the speeches I gave. Not even my parents. I had a debate with a woman who told the farmers of this district to quit growing corn and to grow potatoes instead. She said that potato chip factories would be the answer to the farmers prayers. She spent $3,000,000 on advertising to my $150. Everyone talks a big game but the people never do anything about it.
So, if you want to change the law, change who you elect. Everyone hates Congress but 95 percent of them will be re elected again next time. People hate Congress but love their Congressmen. People vote like it is a ball game. Yeah our team won. Sorry preaching again.NavigatorWife, Lux Prometheus and 70s_driver Thank this. -

Btw im not talking about removing the 34 hour restart. I want to remove the newest 1 to 5 am restriction that caused me to drive every single day without a good break like before

WARNING I am not making this as a political statement but a statement of fact to do with this issue.
It doesn't matter who you vote for, just vote.
Both major parties are friends of unions and corporations alike - don't be fooled by the spin.
The US DOT like other agencies do not even consider congress as a threat to them nor have to talk to them about their regulations. The lack of oversight is the main issue for most of us in this industry, we need congress to get back into the business of regulations and not allow these things to be just created because of some study that can't be backed up or because of some group of people who got their attention as the reason for the regulation.
A simple solution that I do not see in this industry is a letter writing campaign to the elected officials of those truckers, not someone else in congress. BUT in order for it to really work, first you have to be a voter who actually votes (these people can see when you voted) which many don't even bother.
A secondary thing is to actually schedule and visit your elected official.
In order for you to write an effective letter, you have to not rant, put it into a personal like story and be willing to follow up on the letter.
We are voiceless in these things, we are a fractured and scattered bunch so we are an easy target for these stupid and silly things.
Oh and one last thing before I forget, you don't all have to do this on just the federal level, states are the ones who are in control of the HOS enforcement, not the feds so they do push back.Lux Prometheus, 70s_driver and Wooly Rhino Thank this. -
