I would be writing a letter to the commander at Chowchilla. If it didn't put you out of service the first time, it shouldn't have done so the second time. The thing that totally sucks about an equipment violation is that there is no right of due process. You can't contest the violation in court, you can only complain up the chain of command.

Actually the red and blue lines are your service lines. Nowhere in your green bible does it say the service lines must be red or blue. I don't have red or blue service lines on my truck and I've never been hassled.

You can pick one up at any truckstop. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations Part 395. They usually give you one at every orientation you go to, but they also sell them in truckstops.

Lots of varying stuff in this post. It's easy to beat up on a DOT/Traffic official, like so many drivers like to blame their problems on anyone but themselves. That over-used "they" we hear about. However, one of the air brake lines (I don't take that to mean the flex lines between the towing and towed vehicles, the service/emergency brake lines colored somewhere with the blue/red convention), a brake line was worn enough that a mechanic said "we'll fix it later," right? That driver should have refused to take the vehicle out. He knew he was in violation, because the official and the mechanic both told him so. One of my own personal mantras - if I know I'm in violation, I don't go out. I might run to the next repair shop/truck stop for a mudflap or light, and I got a warning once in Texas on a Level 2 for a low charge on my in-cab fire extinguisher. I thanked that Texas DOT officer, stopped at the first place I came, bought a new extinguisher, and got my warning signed off. Mailed it in, on time, no points. When a DOT/Traffic police tell you you're in violation, end of story. Fix your stuff, get back out there legal and safe. What if you were heavy, had a stab braking situation, and that line failed? You'd be responsible for everything that happened. My $.02.

Those lines look they are going to rub. Better get that fixed. Before the man gets you.

because you aren't clear at all, brake lines do not have to be red or blue, red and blue air lines are new guys to know which end of trailer to hook to.
