I was at Shaffer and only got 2k miles a week and had to bust my ### to get them. No preplans before you drop your current load. Company in with now got 3k a week every week, working a lot less hard to get them and I always have a preplan before I drop.

When the old man, who was the owner of Crete Carrier would have actually been a good company, but the old man that did own Crete Carrier is no longer running the company. It is actually run by corporate lawyers, and they like to use such slogans as the, "Patriot Fleet" on the side of their trucks to recruit and re- recruit veterans to come and work for them. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong being a veteran, but that's Crete and Shaffer's way to fill the seats faster to meet their status quo. Once you there, they try to be oppressive towards the driver, especially at the Lenoir City, Tennessee terminal. When you swap trucks, and if you do not get it the way they want it to be perfect, they charge you. A true story, a friend of mine worked there, and he was leaving the company, because on how they treat you there. He brought their truck back to the terminal. Clean the truck out thoroughly and it was spotless, and he gave them the keys to the truck, and they still charged him to clean up the truck, because one of the people in the office has a sister that details the trucks as a business, and doesn't even do satisfactory work on cleaning them, but the driver is charged for it. Not only will Crete do that to you. Shaffer will do that as well. It was like Crete and Shaffer are like the Taliban of trucking, and you are the service member serving their needs. As sad as it may seem, it's actually all true. I have seen pictures, and that driver's pay sheet. If you are thinking about this company. You might want to reconsider. They even harassed my friend while he was there that if he didn't get his hazmat on his licenses, which he already had it on there. His job would be in jeopardy. Did you know they never apologized to him for threatening him about his job. They would ask my friend to help Walmart in Iowa during their peak times. He volunteered to help to keep from sitting, and they made up excuses they lost his paperwork, and they wouldn't pay him. My friend tried to call the Nebraska Department of Labor over it after Crete wouldn't give him back his money. The Nebraska Department of Labor never returned his call or anything. My friend went through did everything he could do to get his money back. Please stay away from these people they're not worth your time.

crappiejunkie Thanks this. -
Lowgear that was my experience there, micromanagement at its best

I can't refute what is said about the Lenoir City terminal because I don't have experience with the people there, and I am not into spreading rumors (correct or incorrect). Best way to avoid charges is to get a signed acknowledgement that they accept the truck and it is clean. They have turn-in inspection forms and will give a copy of it to you. CYA and you will be much better off, not just with Crete, but anywhere.
However, I have been with Shaffer for 12 years, and done the Walmart runs on occasion. Never had a problem with pay...either on Walmart or any other time. That's one thing I have never seen them mess with.
Micromanagement...yes, to a point, if you continue to let them bug you. I answer stupid questions for dispatch referring them back to my loaded call. If I put in there I would be on time, why would it change 5 minutes later?
About the hazmat...they allow 90 days from hire to get it, and they pay for the background check and endorsement. It is no longer required to have it at Crete OR Shaffer, but they will still pay for it if you want to get it.
If Lenoir City is doing what you say, they will clean house eventually, like they did in Wilmer, TX recently for similar offenses.
I have and continue to work for Shaffer, so I am not passing on what a friend tells me...but passing on my personal experience. Is the company perfect...no, and probably none out there are. There are many drivers with Crete and Shaffer that are happy, well paid and have none of the problems that a relative few post about here. In short, my experience is vastly different than your friend claims. -

Who knows, I may go to work for somebody that hasn't even been mentioned in this thread. That decision hasn't been made, and may not be for a while yet.
