An authentic 1918 Luger is a rare and very collectible item, and, if you have to use it, expect it to spend some time in an evidence locker - I still haven't been able to get my PT92 back from NOLA PD when it was taken in the aftermath of Katrina, in spite of the shoot having been ruled clean a long time ago - and I'd certainly expect such a piece as an authentic Luger to have a high probability of becoming "lost" in an evidence locker.

Well he is not going to be using it anytime soon it is in our safety deposit box at the bank. I have seen it once it is really long, and the holster is wood. It is one of those things with a story . It was his grandfather who gave it to his father who gave it to Jim. His grandfather brought it back from France when he came home from WW1. That is all I know about it.

I would highly recommend recording, and photographing, any serial numbers on any gun, as proff that you own it. Justin case it were to disappear from any evidence locker, and show up elsewhare at any given time. this is proof it is yours.

Where do you live that you're required to register an ordinary, Title I firearm?
As for me, I have all the proof that my PT92 is mine, to include a receipt from the NOLA PD. I can prove it's mine, no problem. It's what's going on at their end.

pickaxe handle, 5 batterie flashlight, taser, box cutter, folding pocket knife, claw hammer, short handle 5 lb sledge, oh, and one of those little air can horns like they use at high school basket ball games. I have not had a problem though, I do watch where I park, having the attitude and ability to deal with trouble is all fine and well but only a dumb#%* invites that kind of problem into their life.

Registration paperwork gets lost at times. I only emphasize the previous because at one time in life I was a police officer. You should record, and document, everything important, for your own records. Relying on others to have it, save it, record it, for you is a bad sense of security. It has been proven in years/decades past that the 'keepers' of your 'stuff' do not always have it, or access to it, when you need it. If you were to photograph, etc.,k and put it on a hard drive/thumb drive, and put it into a safe deposit box you know exactly where your records are at. A safe deposit box ($10-$25 yearly) is cheap insurance, or if you access to a fireproof safe thats neve going to move, store it in that. There's nothing wrong with putting information on both a hard drive and thumbdrive, and storing one in one place, and the other elsewhere either.

It got 'lost' and was later recovered in an officers private collection.

Define "registered". None of mine are, aside from the 4473 that was filled out for some of them when purchased from a dealer.
