I am with you too sir... This is all very very sad and unfortunate... Stuff can happen to anyone... regardless of how many million safe miles one has... Again, my sincere prayers to all involved and their families.

Only make sure it's limited to just 30 minutes, otherwise you burn too much time on your 14... and just don't take that nap before driving 4 hours if you want to protect your 11... also don't do it before driving 6 hours if you're trying to protect your 14.
So yes, go ahead and enjoy that very refreshing 30 minute nap, but make sure you remember all the RULES if you want to make $ and if you want to stay out of trouble with your company!Rocks, AfterShock, Turbojet and 1 other person Thank this. -
This kind of "but for the grace of God go I" stuff terrifies me. Each us are in situations everyday when one small lapse can put us on the front page; I think that's one thing that the "normal" public tends to forget. In the vast majority of jobs, a three second lapse isn't going to do that much. Most truckers cover about a football field in that time; there really is not that much of a margin for error when you think about it.
I'm definitely sad for everyone involved, but hopefully things like this make us all step back and think for a minute. Even the best of us are not immune; it is usually a question of being in the wrong place at the exact wrong time. I've been accident free for 21 years, but I know that could all change at literally any second. A healthy respect for what can happen is really our only defense.
Be safe out there."semi" retired, RedForeman, Stile and 10 others Thank this. -

Statistically, though, ~26,027 crashes were reported to police today. (9.5M / 365) No telling how many occurred that weren't. -
Walmart is already one of the safest if not the safest big fleet. So I predict one of 2 possible outcomes:
1) Walmart does away with its private fleet altogether and moves totally to subcontracting with Swift, England, Covenant, etc
2) Walmart becomes the first mega fleet to fully adopt disk brakes -
How the heck did this become about elogs? Some of you folks sure do love your conspiracy theories

It saddens me to hear people put so much blame on the driver. Like others said, this is someone's family member here, and in this business, close calls are part of the game, Lord knows, I've had plenty. And the nature of the bus he hit, there's no protection in an accident like that for someone in the back. The troubling part, for me, aside from the fatality, was on national news, they HAD to point out about truck drivers driving fatigued, like ,just what our industry needs, is more people seeing that. I HATE THE WAY THEY REPORT THE NEWS!!
