I looking to get back into trucking and need some advice.
I previously had a class A cdl about 5 years ago but I didnt renew it, I know dumb mistake.
I now want to get back into trucking again and need to decide how I want to go about doing it.
My options are to go to a school or do the company paid training route?
Which do you think would be the better route?
Please no negative comments as I am trying to get serious and helpful advice to help me out.
Thanks for your advice.
Best option for getting my cdl?

I was in the same boat you are in. I left trucking for 10 years. When I came back I went to a local trucking school. Only cost me $2500 plus physical and drug screen. $2650 total cost. I chose a trucking school for two reasons. First, I had the money to pay for it and second, I didn't want to be indebted to any one company. Best of luck!

I believe both have advantages but I believe going to a school to get my cdl would be better as I would like to advoid signing with a company paid training so I don't have to sign a contract with them. If I got my cdl outright I could have better options for who I wanted to drive for.
But like I said both have advantages, so we will see. -

A few of the megas offer tuition reimbursement too. So even if you pay out of pocket you can get on with a company that will reimburse you. When I got back into trucking I took a job with Schneider. They offered $150 a week reimbursement. All I had to do was show them my receipt and "diploma".

Also, do you have any suggestions of companies to start with? I'm considering US Xpress, Schneider, averitt just to name some off the top of my head.
