He currently resided in Smyrna just to set the record straight. Dont see fatigue being an issue here possibly distracted or who knows.

Reading all the post here it looks like the band of truck driver brothers has decided to circle the wagon and try to throw fault at every direction except squarely where it belongs. It's going to take a while for the investigation to be final and I'm not here to bring judgement anyone or anything but from what I see so far, using my tiny brain to connect the dots, someone took an 40 ton truck and slammed it up another vehicle's rear end resulting in a person dying.
May the dead rest in peace and my heart goes out to the victims families.

tanker, i dont think anyone here is exonerating the driver

he definitely killed someone and hurt someone

the point being, with all of the legal crap we have around us to guarantee ZERO ACCIDENTS, why did this happen?

or is the reality that no matter how many laws you have, no matter how much technology you stick up a driver's butt, accidents will always happen

we all know there are "oops" moments in our lives (the other day, making a left turn, this car came from the right, NEVER saw him because my mirror blocked him), it could have been a catastrophe and except for the mercy of God, i did not have an accident

none of us know why this happened, but surely there will political fall out because of it

in most of our eyes its innocent til proven guilty.. The media already plans to execute the driver before the investigation is complete This is day two and there are already many different versions of what happened. This afternoon a state trooper that interviewed the driver says the driver was trying to avoid the vehicles. Well there is still a lot more that any of us know about what happened. Most of us on this site are truckers and we can only imagine what happened in this situation, Most of us probably been in "close calls" before...

This driver is probably gonna be responsible for this, We will all see once the investigation is done. Don't listen to the media unless you see actual people working this crash talking about it.

Put yourself in the drivers shoes, If this was you how would you feel to read or hear all the judges out there making their minds up? I have been in this drivers shoes before, And it really bothered me hearing how I did everything wrong cause I was an out of control truck driver who owns the road and caused my accident.....

Maybe as drivers we all should atleast lean towards the driver, Until its all final....

He rear ended another vehicle. And killed a passenger in that vehicle. What did you miss?

Their fleet is a huge liability (this one accident will likely cost more than $100 million) and each one of their "cream of the crop" drivers costs the company > $100k/year after payroll taxes & benefits. They can subcontract to carriers paying drivers less than half that, get nearly the same service often for a lower price, free up millions in capital that is tied up in no longer needed land & equipment, and further insulate themselves from liability & bad PR. And if the economy should contract, they don't have to worry about keeping drivers busy...

So the real question is why would they keep it?

    1) tradition/pride
    2) quality control
    3) at times their private fleet may operate at lower cost than subcontractors
    4) the ability to show higher wages for the "average" walmart employee when facing critcism for paying low wages.

Anytime you rear end another vehicle, you are at fault. Let's say the limo did hit the brakes. A safe following distance would have prevented a rear end accident.
