Freshly graduated from CDL Mill "cough cough" School 5/30 after a 600 hour program that turned into 750. I'm still thrilled tbh.
Swift has all but hired me, I could head out soon as 6/16 to orientation and I just got a pre approved notice from Werner. I know I got to pay my dues. I aint going to let the stigma of these big ones on the internet bring me down. Covenant turned me down.

I've been with Swift over 9 years now. I've looked at many others in that time, but I really like the gig I'm doing. Sometimes it isn't a matter of money if you know what I mean.
All the megas have their problems and all are S O Bs, but it is learning to play that particular company's game, knowing what they are, and getting your time in. There are lots of opportunities out here, just be patient and do your research looking for your ideal situation after paying your dues.
Congratulations, good luck, and be safe!Neon Cthulhu, Puppage and mje Thank this. -
Did a 1.5yr tour with Swift... perhaps I was charmed but my experience was mostly good. Had an understanding and competent DM, always drove nice equipment.
I have, however, learned that your experience will vary greatly terminal to terminal with Swift. Some are great, some just casual, some just have miserable people.
My home terminal was outta Columbus, OH. Luckily, one of the great ones. -
There's no such thing as "having to pay dues"; that's a myth.
There's dozens of good companies out there that hire new CDL graduates; pick one that has APU's so your layovers and down time is more comfortable.Toomanybikes, Neon Cthulhu, Puppage and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thanks Chinatown, SOOO true I think. Its going to be difficult sifting thru all the potentials while at school I think.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
If you were to do 1 more year, and went to another trucking company, your 10 years of driving history would be all under 1 company. This would make it much easier for a potential future trucking company to verify your work history, while complying with D.O.T. regulations.
Good luck to you! God bless you and your entire family!Chinatown Thanks this. -
I'm with China on the apu thing. With everyone pushing fuel economy, I wouldn't drive these days without one.Neon Cthulhu and jparm Thank this. -

I did 3 years with Werner and have nothing bad to say about them either. My dispatcher was a really nice guy, my equipment was always nice and they kept me plenty busy. I worked hard for them and they kept their end of the deal.... they reimbursed me for my school expenses. They also got me home regularly. Every company has its pros and cons but most of the time you get what you give, so to speak. Best of luck to you and don't belive everything bad you read about either of these companies.
Honch Thanks this.
