Not sure I could go completely nomad, but it is an intriguing idea! Go for it. Do it now, lol:) I definitely agree with about shortness of life. Everytime family member passes away, it puts things in perspective real quick. People gripe and moan about such little piddly crap and don't look at the big picture. Things can always be alot worse. Anyways, I keep thinking to myself, my life is half over, do I really want to spend it on conference calls, in meetings, in an office, dealing with people. Have I mentioned, I'm not a people person:)

Definitely good advice Wsyrob. I could not pay off in three years. Maybe 10. Probably the smart thing to do, would be to work this job another 5 or 10 years, then jump ship to trucking. I just don't know if I can take it.
Hi NewNashGuy, if you wonder why old-timers complain, it's after 35 years, we've been around the block a LOT, and got screwed around a LOT. When I had 3 years in, I loved it as well, I couldn't believe I got paid to do that, but there are just so many times you can put up with the BS, and it wears on you. It sounds like Wade wants to do it, and that's great. You shouldn't go into any new venture with a crummy attitude, you'll fail for sure. If I went back into it, like I've thought, I'd hate it, and the 1st time something went wrong, I'd pull the pin. Talk to us in 20 years, and let us know how you feel. I can't imagine what the next 20 years are going to bring in the trucking industry.
I really appreciate both of your points of view. I think if you do anything for 20 years, you are going to complain and be ready for a change. That's exactly where I am at the moment.
Actually, Wade, being an O/O was the best thing I did in trucking. It was by far, the most satisfying, and I had the final say-so in most decisions. With a co. job, they can tell you to go to the moon for .03 cpm, and you don't have much choice. Besides, the way things are going, there might not be many company jobs left, as these places are doing away with the trucking operations, as it's been a losing proposition for these companies for years, and with situations like the Wal-Mart/Tracy Morgan deal, that's got to hurt, I don't care who you are. O/O's have several organizations that can help, and that's a plus.
I definitely like the idea of owning my own business and having the final say so on how I run it! I need to understand the business first for sure before I make that kind of investment.

I can understand that. It also has to do with lack of exercise which makes people get negative. I knew a guy who never exercised his whole life and man he #####ed about everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrything. He could hit the largest lottery ever and he would get mad that they took taxes out of it. I admit I am slacking on my cardio which is why I have been grumpy lately. BTW Wade you quoted and replied to every poster but mine which is interesting.

In your past post you stated you could not afford windows. So you used cardboard. If that's the case making $100,000 plus dollars. I would recommend learning how to manage your money. If you were in business for yourself in trucking. And managed money like you described. You would be out of business very quick. Then the dream turns into a nightmare.

Oh I did, thanks. To answer your question Wade, I was a computer programmer for 14 years. The boss would always come into my office and ask me a complex question while I was trying to concentrate on something else. The pay was great but I never felt like I was off duty. Especially since I would still think about work assignments and how to prepare a presentation for board members the next morning. Now I just turn the key and go.

Thanks camaro. Point well taken. I was not making 100k when I lived there. It was many years ago when I first started out after college. Point I was trying to make in that post was that I was just as happy then living with cardboard windows as I am now. I dont need alot of stuff to he happy.
