My boss says on WI-43 off of I-90/I-39 has a scale in the road before the first exit.
Where else do they have them IN the road?

All states are adding those. As technologies become available someone is going to figure out a use for them. Many states are working on using gps locators to tax automobiles by the mile rather then using fuel taxes because the more efficient a car becomes the less revenue is generated. It will not be long before someone comes up with a system that is GPS and dashcam based where a picture will be taken of a driver who is speeding. That picture will be flashed to a computer based Judge who will fine the driver and the fine will be deducted from his bank account.
Once the genie is out of the bottle it is really hard to get it back in. In traffic court that genie was the stupid statement that "driving is not a right, it is a privilege.""semi" retired Thanks this. -
MN has had scales in the road in random spots for decades. There was one on I-494 near Edina and there was a news story on it.

They can't actually "weigh" an axle. All they can do is determine a given axle is heavy enough to trip a set threshold that might be reason to call in for to a certified scale for closer examination. Mostly these are used to count traffic and determine "road use weights" for funds application reports. You see these all over the place in every state once you start to look for them.
"semi" retired and 48Packard Thank this. -
They weigh all of the trucks and then the ones that are registered then get red or green lights. -
Entering IL from IN just past the McDonald's overpass.
Also on I355 north of 80 in IL.
Run legal and you will not have to keep track of every single scale in the nation.
and if you are not, IL (at least around Chicago) was still doing inspections this week, for the third year in a row. Going after all the non compliant drivers that just took a vacation during the blitz week.
