    Exactly! :biggrin_25510:

It is ridiculous that safety sends a message like that and expects you to comply, all the while knowing that you will not get the message until you stop! I get this all the time, messages sent while driving and trying to keep inside the delivery window. Or, should we stop every time a message light appears and read them? Some of these messages are not important and would be a waste of time and fuel to stop for!

The Qualcomm can read the messages aloud, while your driving. Sure its broken English...but you get the jist.

I listen to the readout while on the road. Sometimes it takes 2 or 13 tries to figure it out. For weather, I pick up noaa on the cb. I'll check it out 2 times a day or if I see looming low and ominous clouds in the distance to see how bad it's going to be.

My text to speech was disabled with one of the software upgrades. I have the truck pc and it still runs Windows xp which is no longer supported by Microsoft.

Meteorology was one of my hobbies when I was in school, so I'm in the habit of watching the skies. I may not be able to name all the cloud types anymore, but when I see dark clouds rising I start looking for rotation. For us truckers straight line winds can be just as bad especially if we're light. I slowed down and continued watching the conditions.

    Dark Squall Thanks this.

Most people just don't think. It's very easy when you are sitting in an office, or cubicle to fire off a message to one or more drivers. The problem is that it's also easy to forget that the person on the receiving end is already dealing with the issue you are trying to warn him/her about. The other problem is that people conditioned to blindly follow policy lose the ability to think logically. This situation illustrates the point. The company has a policy of not talking to drivers while driving and blanking the message screen while the truck is in motion. The result is that either you take a chance and violate policy to make sure a driver gets the warning, or you follow policy and hope for the best. Personally, I would have called my driver and told him to shut down. If anyone had a problem with a breach of policy my defense would have been that my driver was in immediate danger and needed the warning. If safety is truly our cornerstone value then getting him off the road is more important than a potential issue with talking to a driver on the road.

I'm not just talking about Roehl office personnel. This is a common problem with people in general. They take the easiest and safest route. If you always follow policy you never have to worry about defending your actions. You never really get noticed for good, or bad, but you do manage to find limited success in life.
