I'm beginning to believe China is our Yoda of the trucking industry, LOL.
I don't know how he does it, but it's always spot-on...

So it's ok for people to fail the CDL test 2-5 times, no wonder our industry is screwed, it's not that hard.

Thank you. It's my understanding that since I didn't get the CDL, I don't owe them. I haven't heard any different.

    Great idea! Thanks!

I only told 1 school, hoping to get 'fast-track', since I'm already 'CDL trained', but it backfired. Won't try that again.

Great suggestions, China! I'll try them. (except I didn't have much of a choice about returning to the same examiner at TN DOT. That was Squire's choice. But that's another story).

As I tried to explain, it's a setup! The examiner (and likely most of them in TN) fails certain students as a matter of 'policy'. I suspect it's because of the recent scandals (as w/Swift) where certified testing schools were giving out 'illegal' CDL's.

I failed the backing portion of my WA CDL test. I retook it once and passed. Sounds like your test examiner is a d-bag. In Washington you can notify the DoL in writing that you will not accept a certain test examiner in writing and they will schedule you for a different tester, have you tried that?

Especially the air pressure, 25 and 40 is the standard was taught in CDL school, and in fontana, CA by my company.

I decided not to do a company school for the reason that I didn't want to be tied to a company in payments if I learned I hated them....

As I tried to explain, it's a setup! The examiner (and likely most of them in TN) fails certain students as a matter of 'policy'. I suspect it's because of the recent scandals (as w/Swift) where certified testing schools were giving out 'illegal' CDL's. Evidence of this is that you can't get an appt for Road Test sooner than 3 weeks! That's almost certainly because most people are 'returning for another try'.

Apparently, it didn't used to be 'that hard'. I know people who have got CDL's more than 5 years ago without ever doing a Pre-trip; just drive around the block, back it up into a space, and get the CDL.
Now it seems common that most people fail the first time or 2. If you don't touch something (even if you point at it), or if you don't say the required 'key words' (contained in 'their' manual - and different states ARE a little different; they have different 'check boxes' on their test form ;) ), they take off points. They ask you to do a 'partial pre-trip', which means that with only 40 or so points to make, they don't have to take many points off to fail you.

Call Tennessee' s Dmv headquarters and talk to there CDL compliance and make a formal complaint about the examiner and they will probably set up a test date where they will test you themselves. That's how it would be handled here in Georgia and all states must follow federal guidelines.
