In 1990 Gloria Estefan was in her tour bus not restrained when it was rear ended by a semi during a snow storm on I-84, near Scranton. She broke her back, but recovered. The media circus was just as intense, and this was before:
CDL's, random drug testing, electronic engines (vehicle info for crash details), eld's, anti lock brakes, lane departure and following distance monitors yada yada yada. The average density of the traffic on US highways was probably 30% less than now. The injuries/deaths in truck related accidents measured by vehicle miles traveled is down considerably in that time frame.
You can thank the perfect storm of a relentless 24 hour news cycle, an experienced driver apparently exercising bad judgement, and a public with attention deficit disorder demanding some unknown ineffective remedy which the industry will have to put up with forever.
The takeaway for me is easy. I don't ever want to be in that mans shoes. I don't care what other drivers are doing, what bills I need to pay, I don't care what regulations come out of this. The investigation after my accident will yield "he did everything he could to avoid an accident", like the song Phantom 309.
Just do it.

Frankly, I feel a little foolish for participating in this discussion. TTR has a lot of good, positive threads, where I can learn and contribute. I think I'm going to limit my time on these ones that get reduced to pissing matches that create animosity.

I see many truck accidents on the newsfeed I get through ems and fire contacts. This is just one of the many.
You have accused me of saying he is innocent with no proof.
All I can say, if you are a perfect driver, let me meet you.
You have stated it can never happen to you. When it does, come back and post. We will be sure to treat you the way you have done.
Otherwise, no more reason to deal with someone just trying to troll since you thank one post and attack another saying the same thing. -

What you're saying is valid and probably have some merit. But it has a certain tasteless tone to is as though you're blaming the rape victim for being beautiful and wearing a miniskirt. I'm sure that's not what you mean.
In certain states, limos must provide seat belts to passengers but it's not required to be worn. I"m not sure how it is in NJ.KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this. -

I rolled into a construction zone, slowing down but still above the speed limit, cop stopped me, I was expecting a ticket, instead he found out who I was driving for, and let me off with a verbal warning. That was my free pass and I'm not going to risk it or anyone else in a construction zone.
The NTSB has went through the ECM on the WM truck, I'd like to know what the ECM in the Sprinter read also.Roadmedic Thanks this.
