You have to watch all the little HICKVILLE counties along that stretch of I87 they all need $ and just 1 of the ways they generate it,
Suppose to be warning signs prior to accessing the road that's posted with restrictions so everyone avoids these situations.

I'd fight the #### out of it and make that cop like an ######. I have some good friends in law enforcement that have looked the other way plenty of times for me but I also understand they have to make a living too. I've seen some guys who will cut you a break and others that are by the book but still respectful and the. There's ### hats like this guy.

This is not a ticket to fight if you are only wanting to get it changed to a non moving. This is a ticket to fight for a not guilty finding and to then turn around and sue the cop for harassment.

No law can be legal if it puts the public safety at risk. Period. As you describe the situation the sign says local traffic only. That doesn't mean you do not have the right to do what you did. It means you are not to use that road to get past where the bridge is out. The fact that you felt it was safer to proceed to the warehouse and turn around there rather then back up down a city street is correct. Local traffic only does not mean that you live there. It means you are not going to go past there.

Your actions were LEGAL. His actions were dumb. Go explain what you did to the Judge and sue the city for your court cost and time missed. You have a great case. If you can get the case put off until I finish law school and pass the bar in the New York State, I would take the case.

Cops write tickets all the time but it is the Judge who determines what the law is. Cops are betting you won't fight. Although, I have been told by some really good cops that they think you should fight anything as it keeps them from becoming lazy.

I have a lot of respect for some law enforcement I ha en many friends and family in law enforcement. Heck my father in law was a member of the Boston PD for 29 years before retiring. I have respect for the ones that enforce the law, and are not solely there to generate revenue.

I thought about calling them before proceeding past the signs to turn around at the warehouse but figured I would drive 100 feet past the signs to turn around. Next time (hopefully there won't ever be next time) I will not proceed past the signs without calling them. If the road was properly marked I would of never turned down it.

I try my best to obey the law and keep my record clean. I currently work for one if the mega's. I actually do not really have any major complaints and am pretty happy. I know after I get 1-2 years experience I will be looking to go somewhere for the long term (my last job before trucking was 13 years with the same company. ) I am not a person who bounces from job to job. I just don't want this to effect my getting a job with a better company a year or 2 down the road

Good luck. AFAICT you committed no violation.

The problems are, judges tend to know even less about traffic code than cops, and judges aren't any different than motorists, they could not care less about their ignorance.

In some pissant towns no one has an ice cube's chance in hell of prevailing in any traffic case, x10 for a truck driver.

You might have to pay full price if you don't have one of those legal companies that you pay for already, possibly $500.00 but don't quote me on that price. They find you a lawyer who can handle truckers lawsuits in the area to represent you. You would have to find out if you have to be at the court day in person though, and make sure you find this out before the fact, not after the fact.

It does sound like a real money making deal for the town. Too bad you couldn't get a pic of road before the turn with the signs not posted beforehand.

Inquiring minds want to know what road were you on, I see 2 different areas that perhaps would have a bridge over water, but that maybe miles from where you were.

If you read the 2 comments I guess it not being clearly marked has been an issue for other people as well.

The picture in the article was taken from the other side of the bridge. Not the side I went down (looks nothing like the area I was in.)

Like I said it was very clearly marked and obvious there was a bridge closed ahead once you turned onto the actual road with the closed bridge but nothing before making that turn.

A dash cam has been on my wishlist for a while now wish I had 1 at the time to document this.

I'm going to play devil's advocate I guess, but understand I have no issues with what you did to get out of the situation...
If you got out and walked far enough to be able to see past the signs,(were the signs in the rd as to partially block it?) see the warehouse and multiple docks and determine there was enough room to execute a turn around how did you not see the cop?
Again, not trying to be an a-hole...
