I admire your restraint. I would have done my best to make sure he was chewing on his own teeth when the cops arrived. Maybe called it a citizens arrest just to make it official...

Good luck on not having it bite you. I won't pretend to know the laws, but wish you the best.

Its hard to do when you have the pride I have in both of these old trucks. I figured leaving the scene was cheaper easier than what it woulda turned into

I suspect that they're probably looking for you, because in my opinion, you were involved in the accident. If it were me, I'd probably be proactive and call them to give them your information. Tell them that you weren't actually involved, but thought that they might need your info as a witness.

That will let you find out what's going on without having to look over your shoulder. If they raise hell about you leaving, push the animal welfare issue - loaded, hot, needed to get 'em in the wind.

Do not buy a camera because the police can legally make you appear in court and they can confiscate your camera until after the court date. We discussed this in our last meeting at The Vol. Fire Dept I am in. They even told us not to wear duty uniforms or any id or say we are 1st responders out of our jurisdiction due to the fact we can be held for not giving first aid.

The trouble with this country is there are too many lawyers. Julius Ceasar 100-44 BC

Stop with the FUD, we've covered this already, they CANNOT confiscate or even touch your camera or phone without your permission or, failing that, a subpoena. And if you're ignoring people who need aid because your local VFD doesn't want you to, perhaps you should be hammered for violating the Good Samaritan law.

I would have done the same. Staying there is to much like an admission of guilt.

Think of a cops perspective. Truck driver drives away from guy who has bloody knuckles and just backed into another car. The guy that got hit probably told the cops what happened. Your in the clear.

This is kind of a tough call. I've done right turns, and got close to cars like that, and some did freak out because seeing a truck coming at them is a tad intimidating.(never had a car back into another one) Me, I probably would have stuck around, just to make sure the cops knew the whole story, and for the benefit of the other person, and since he did strike your truck, watch him be made out a fool. I'm sure he felt pretty stupid after that anyway, and he was trying to give you room, just didn't plan too well. I always try and think of the human factor, granted his behavior was bad, but who knows what kind of day he was having, maybe a loved one died or something. I probably would have stuck around.
