How to quit Werner Enterprises?

It all depends on the acct your on. I am not gonna say werner is a great company to work for. I was originally regional fresh out of training and the pay was 28 cpm. (21 plus a 7 cpm safety bonus which I always hit).I switched to a smaller dedicated acct., home weekends, (not 1 of the acts that requires driver unload) and average about 1200 a week gross. On my dedicated acct the worst week I had was 1000.00 gross pay (took a day off). For me it has not been a bad company but recognize I am here just to get experience. If you can find 1 of the good smaller dedicated accts it can be tolerable.

I have known a few people that left and did so with no issues. Here is how they did it.
1. Take your home time and clean your truck top to bottom.
2. Document with photos everything.
3. Report back to work with just the minimal things you need in your truck to get by.
4. Give them 2 weeks notice. In most cases they will end your employment then and there (unless you are in an acct that is running shorthanded). They may ask for a resignation in writing or on the qualcom. Just make sure you document that date via cell phone pic

If you are not returning to a terminal after home time ask to be routed to 1. Weather it be for repairs or some other reason. If it is to difficult to get you to a terminal you can give your notice over the qualcom, and tell them you would like to be routed to a terminal to turn in your truck. and make sure you take a clear picture of the message and email it to yourself so you have the time and date documented in case something like abandonment or quit without notice gets out on your dac report

 

There are no account paying 22cpm unless you have been in an accident and lost your safety bonus. Also, the trucks are all standardized to idle at 75 degrees.

Pleaae take your story telling somewhere else. This is the "new driver" section, not the "angry driver who did something he doesn't want to admit and is taking revenge" section.

Btw, I was making 36 cpm after two months because I had an excellent on time score...because I tookm an account with 20-35 stops a week. I make 38 now, despite quitting and coming back. I ran out my clock last week... So it's not like I wouldn't be making money even at 29cpm.

For those of you who were wondering, Werner just released its employment stats, and over 5000 of the 9000+ drivers have more than a year, and 2500 of those have over 2 years.

Im going back to sleep. This is ridiculous.

 

I agree with nshore harleyguy, but instead of telling them you're quitting, give them 2 weeks notice of you needing to take a leave of absence. If they ask why, just say "family issues", and they will get you back to the terminal faster than you've ever experienced.

Iirc, the leave of absence expires at 6 months and you're terminated, your deposit is returned to you, and mass mutual sends you information on how to transfer your 401k.

 

If you come to Crete you'll start at 42-43CPM with your experience (yes under a year, I switched and am earning .43)

 

When I was with Werner fresh out of training in a raggedy truck I broke down. Truck was over heating and clutch gone. They left me stranded in Nashville at a KW dealership. I was getting 50 bucks a day going broke. When they couldn't decide to authorize the clutch being fixed I headed home. The service guy told me werner would leave guys stuck waiting for authorization of repairs all the time. I told dispatcher I was on my way to the terminal to get my car and go home. He said we wouldn't get me for abandoning the truck and when we fix it we'll call you. That never happened when I called the said I was no longer employed. Key point leaving the truck in favorable place for werner, and have your next job set up.
I agree with Condo said "Your main concern is a clean driving record and no abandonment or quit under a load.
Being empty and at the terminal, if you walked into dispatch and said I'll work 1-2 weeks more they will probably tell you to go ahead and quit now'' Try to stick it out for the year mark, it will probably help you a lot in getting a better job!

Tkpinsc gave a great Idea take a leave of absence and start new gig and if doesn't work out you can go back.

werners main goal is get new drivers and pimp them to make money. They pay new guys squat and pocket the profits. They also run that scam when your training time is up they tell you they don't have a spot and can you stay with the trainer another week or so. The trainer and werner make out while you get the shaft!!! Forgive my werner rant but the only thing I learned at werner was don't drop the soap!!!!!!!

 

All this negative talk about Werner kind of has me bummed a little. What happened? Years ago, I remember Werner was a good company. They had large car Pete's and I remember on the doors of their trailers were 1 of the first to promote "paperless logs". They even sponsored one of my favorite Top Fuel dragster drivers, Clay Milligan, who if I'm not mistaken, started as a forklift driver for them. It's sad to hear they went so far downhill.

 

32 cpm for a team??????????????/Should be a law against that.I had some fun with an online recruiter on Werner website,she told me it was 36 cpm split.Must have lowered the pay since then.I don't know why the pay for a driver as a team operation is lower then a solo driver.I think you'll be happier with the next company.

 

Back in 2002 they weren't bad but by far not good either just tolerable. I got along with my dispatcher,had her most of the 3 yrs.But I was more then ready to quit after the first yr due to the pay and low miles.My dispatcher kept talking me out of quitting.She has emailed me a few times since then asking me to come back.But drivers can only take so much.[QUOTE="semi" retired;4122827]All this negative talk about Werner kind of has me bummed a little.
