I try to always advocate honesty and truthfulness with your employer. On this issue? Not so much. And...don't offer any more information than what you are asked for.

Obviously, you can't pass on a Great Dane or St. Bernard as a 30lb dog. But...my last dog was a German Shepherd that weighed 65 lbs and was 15.5 years old when she died last Labor Day. (actually she had cancer and her weight dropped down to more like 40lbs just before she died)

I have adopted another pooch...a shepherd/hound mix and she weighs 61lbs. She's short but stocky and most people would think she weighs less than what she does. Anyway..the choice is yours...but I changed the weight on the vets bill to 36lbs. I'm not telling you to do that...BUT...where I work...no one really cares about my mutt. They only care about the proper paperwork/shots. You folla?

I'm starting my orientation at Knight Refrigerated next Monday out of the Idaho Falls terminal. I actually went in this morning and did the drug/physical testing and will probably do the drive test tomorrow afternoon. I live about 20 min from the terminal. I haven't driven a rig in over a year now and I'm a bit nervous about the drive test...but it's like riding a bike, right? :biggrin_25519: Anyway, how well does Knight actually do in keeping drivers in the area they are interested in driving in? My DM mentioned it should be pretty easy to keep me in the ID,WA,OR,MT and UT area...I don't mind going other places, I just like to stay up in the NW.

Once you have driven a rig it is like a bicycle, you dnt forget. I was out of a truck for two yrs and road tested like I never left.

So, the girl at Melton said if the dog was spotted and believed to be over their limit she would be weighed and if over the limit I would have to get her out of the truck. I won't chance it. Sounds like they really watch that stuff. That leaves me with Knight for the most part. However, Freymiller contacted me today and spoke with a recruiter there and their pay is very similar to what Knight has to offer and their trucks have APUS where Knight's trucks do not. They had no problem with the dog at all. The fact that they have APUs and are similar to Knight in terms of pay are causing me to look at them a little harder. I would have to front the bill for CDL training and get it on my own if I went Freymiller as opposed to Knight who actually pay you while training to get your CDL. But Freymiller does have tuition reimbursement, so that helps a little. APUs are a big deal to me, especially with the dog. My backup plan was to buy a small generator and small portable AC setup to act as my home made APU system if I were to go with Knight. Those are my thoughts at this point. My plan is put in an application the first week of August and starting CDL training the first week of September unless I went with knight; then I would be putting in the app but starting with Knight the first week of September.

    ChefBrianN Thanks this.

And I don't know about you guys but Fridays always seem to suck in dispatch. All the plans you made on Thursday for the weekend tend to come crashing down on Fridays. I have a guy with pickup in VA to MI for Monday and has a request in OK for Friday next week. I had it all lined up; the swap driver would load the NJ to KS load and they would meet in Pittsburgh or Youngstown to get the OK guy in position to get home but noooooo. Stupid receiver took their sweet time so now he is stuck going to MI for Monday and will just end up going back to PA. Will have to play with that Monday.

I'd get used to that if I were you. That load ain't a guarantee until the tires are spinning down the highway...and even then I've seen posts from some drivers here that have had to return to drop/switch loads after they are on the road. Nothing is written in stone in this business.

The app is in with Knight. It just makes more financial sense to go with them in the end. I just don't have 4000.00 to fork over for CDL training. They want to get me in orientation sometime in August at Springdale, AR and then I would show up to begin CDL school in September at Memphis, TN.

The guys in Memphis are top notch. When I was there they where instructing the newb's on how to save money by cooking in the truck.

That's interesting. Are they sending them out in trucks they can cook in? Like with APUs? Or are they just fluffing it up for newbies?

Knight doesn't have APU's in any of their trucks. Even the newly purchased 2015 aren't equipped with APU's. One of the few things I don't like about Knight...as for cooking in the trucks, yes, I've seen several driver trainers showing new drivers how to cook in their trucks. Personally, I cook in my truck as well, but I use the induction heating device that you see on tv commercials late at night. Works like a charm! No flame, no hot surfaces, gets my food nice and hot! :biggrin_255:
