Going Over the Road with Knight

I try to always advocate honesty and truthfulness with your employer. On this issue? Not so much. And...don't offer any more information than what you are asked for.

Obviously, you can't pass on a Great Dane or St. Bernard as a 30lb dog. But...my last dog was a German Shepherd that weighed 65 lbs and was 15.5 years old when she died last Labor Day. (actually she had cancer and her weight dropped down to more like 40lbs just before she died)

I have adopted another pooch...a shepherd/hound mix and she weighs 61lbs. She's short but stocky and most people would think she weighs less than what she does. Anyway..the choice is yours...but I changed the weight on the vets bill to 36lbs. I'm not telling you to do that...BUT...where I work...no one really cares about my mutt. They only care about the proper paperwork/shots. You folla?

 

I'm starting my orientation at Knight Refrigerated next Monday out of the Idaho Falls terminal. I actually went in this morning and did the drug/physical testing and will probably do the drive test tomorrow afternoon. I live about 20 min from the terminal. I haven't driven a rig in over a year now and I'm a bit nervous about the drive test...but it's like riding a bike, right? Anyway, how well does Knight actually do in keeping drivers in the area they are interested in driving in? My DM mentioned it should be pretty easy to keep me in the ID,WA,OR,MT and UT area...I don't mind going other places, I just like to stay up in the NW.

 

Once you have driven a rig it is like a bicycle, you dnt forget. I was out of a truck for two yrs and road tested like I never left.

 

I'd get used to that if I were you. That load ain't a guarantee until the tires are spinning down the highway...and even then I've seen posts from some drivers here that have had to return to drop/switch loads after they are on the road. Nothing is written in stone in this business.

 

The guys in Memphis are top notch. When I was there they where instructing the newb's on how to save money by cooking in the truck.

 

That's interesting. Are they sending them out in trucks they can cook in? Like with APUs? Or are they just fluffing it up for newbies?

 

Knight doesn't have APU's in any of their trucks. Even the newly purchased 2015 aren't equipped with APU's. One of the few things I don't like about Knight...as for cooking in the trucks, yes, I've seen several driver trainers showing new drivers how to cook in their trucks. Personally, I cook in my truck as well, but I use the induction heating device that you see on tv commercials late at night. Works like a charm! No flame, no hot surfaces, gets my food nice and hot!
