Right - and what you don't have is: unlimited data.

Why don't you get a trac phone plan.Walmart has all different plans.Only thing that's alittle costly is the phone. After that you're paying around $50.00 a month for unlimited everything including internet. Then you won't be tied to a contract. The phones are real nce.I have Verizon and considering going back to straight talk but keeping my internet plan.Because I have a lap top and can't complain about the internet. My phone and net is together and pretty costly.

Once you have a phone with an unlimited data connection and a free hotspot, you can go online with any device you like. I've got two laptops and two tablets in the truck that my Samsung Galaxy S4's hotspot provides internet for.

Funny you say that because I'm with virgin and they buy their broadband from Sprint, yet I hear from friends on Sprint complaining about the data dam they get, while I continue to get good service. AND they pay some ridiculous amount for a Wi-Fi hotspot.

When I took a year off in Las Vegas a couple years ago I went out and got myself a Clear 4G hotspot for my apartment because my 3G smartphone at the time wasn't up to the task. The Clear device supplied a good fast internet connection for $50/month and no plan (Clear bumped that to $55/month several months ago). Unfortunately Clear's big stopper for trucking is, they only provide a signal in metro areas.

But I'm right, right? You don't have unlimited data. Oops never mind...got you mixed up with the other poster. The reason the other poster's hotspot is free (without rooting) is because with a limited data plan providers don't care how you use the data.

Yep, but I really don't see that as being that big of a deal. I would rather have a phone that can make and receive phone calls reliably, from anywhere, and from my research no one can touch Verizon in that aspect.

Maybe I could get rooted phone on ebay and just sign up with verizon for data plan, would that work? Sprint does have unlimited data plan but then there's 5GB mobile hotspot restriction. And I've heard about Sprint being bad coverage, etc. I want to switch to verizon and get best coverage.

If you get a straight talk plan $45 dollar plan with a Verizon phone, you get Verizon service, with unlimited everything, but I think they say they can throttle you after 3g, also you can buy 3 month cards cheap on ebay,(last time I looked 110 bucks no tax so 36.66/month for unlimited everything not too shabby)

If you get a tiered plan you can use the Hotspot without paying extra $.
You can root an Android Phone on Verizon but, you won't need to root to use the Hotspot.
