Close your curtian no recording...your bed is safe...maybe ask your Driver Mgr to send you a video of you...so you can see what they see...I think you will understand they only care about safety. Period.

Maybe pay will go up maybe you are correct on being new not being a part of the issue. Will you allow me to come and install a camera with night vision and audio recording equipment in your bedroom at home? Or even in your personal vehicle? Im not trying to be disrespectful again but this is the situation here.

    Chewey Thanks this.

It is unlawful to record video/audio in places there is a reasonable expectation of privacy (restroom, break room, place of rest, etc.). A video camera watching pedestrians on the street may be lawful because the expectation of privacy is not there, but put a camera in a dressing room at a clothing store and see how fast that store is out of business because there is a reasonable expectation of privacy. These driver facing cameras are still fairly new and not widely being used yet. I can really foresee a large class action suit down the road that targets large companies with deep pockets.

Please read my earlier post this camera can see atleast 65% of your sleeper area without curtains drawn. Check the smart drive website video's and please point out all of the sleeper equipped trucks being recorded upon. I have seen what that camera can see. With or without curtains drawn AUDIO is still being recorded sir.

    Tom,
If the camera is in your truck, and they tell you it records you and any audio, and as a condition of your continued emplyoment you understand this...well your signed up. I agree in a dressing room etc would be a no no...Class Action lawsuit...maybe for Swift as it really records your true miles and can show the road your actually on.

If a business placed a camera at the door of a restroom, should the stalls of the restroom be my only level of privacy? I would like to see how long a business would remain in business by doing this some time.

There will be no public outrage about cameras in the trucks because it doesn't effect most of the public. Make it mandatory that all cars be equipped with the same and see things change much more quickly.

Sir you have officially missed the point and dodged my previous question. My truck is my dressing room. To what point are you trying to argue this? No it does not record your milage and as a condition of my employment i will and can terminate that at will without notice. Tell me why you want to be watched sir? Or if that's not the case why are you arguing here? Do you have no respect for your own privacy?

    S,
SmartDrives website show that yes..at Millis our driver view cameras are as far as you can put them on the pass side top windshield ..no bunk shots etc..it does show in between the seats, like if you are shifting etc. What AUDIO are you worried about.? Again the unit only records serious events...and again the audio I have heard would need FBI to figure out what was said...

The employment agreement does not give them the right to listen in on my private conversations I may have with a co-driver, if a team, or even while on the phone with my wife, etc. That is were wiretapping laws trump employment agreements. Like I said, these cameras are too new and not enough outrage has been created yet. Aside from all this, I think it is very dangerous for a carrier to possibly expose themselves to even more liability for an accident. A camera could show a driver wasn't paying attention, but there was no camera showing the car driver who may not have been paying attention either. As a result, the jury hits the carrier with even bigger damages, even if the other driver may have been at fault.
