Yup, I agree with the general. I'm in Allentown, PA now waiting to unload and I'll be dead heading about 250 miles to my next pickup point. I was doing loads from KS to ND. The pay was so good I dead headed back and did it 4 more times. In my case, if I'm not hauling a load I'm out around $500 to $600 a day in profit. Dropping a load off in ND then getting a crap load paying nothing the next day to a place that pays just $.50 cents more per mile doesn't cut it. By the time I wait until the next day to load, load it, drive and unload I could have dead headed to a great place in half the time and a lot less money in fuel.
If your in the oil fields of ND and there's a load to Ohio (ya right) it's going to pay about $1.10 and be heavy.

50 miles deadhead, = 1 hour driving, and at $2.00 per mile thats $100+ fuel. Maybe $130.
Sometimes its worth it, I grew up in the area and know it well. That loads of lumber TQL had was nothing compared to what I could get out of Norfolk -

This is exactly the problem I am facing! I am dispatching our truck, that my husband drives and most days I feel like the brokers have totally violated me. I book a load and then wait around to see what "the trick" is. It s been three months now and I am about to bail because I just dont have the heart to argue and haggle with brokers on the phone all day.

I feel things are set up this way to run us little guys off.

i have a question for you. how do you find freight to put on the load boards? do you have your own manufacturers you deal with, do you get a list of freight etc. thanks

There are two features a trucker can turn off.
One feature is a broker can see what searches you are doing like all flabed loads within a 100 mile radius of Memphis, TN
Another feature is a broker gets notified if you click on their load to see details.
I have both turned off.silver dollar and BoyWander Thank this.
