Try applying at a local ltl co. Start out on the dock maybe as a combo driver. Maybe foodservice company. Twenty hours of truck school is pretty much the same as you renting the truck and taking test by yourself. Did you have experience moving /backing tractor trailer around prior to going to school? Probably the school felt you didnt need much behind the wheel. As long as you have the certificate of completion, I dont think you will have a problem locally

Dootson has a good reputation locally.
A lot of the local companies use them for training drivers.

That's exactly what I did and did it several times.
I walked into the office of my present employer, asked if they are hiring, the girl at the desk said "no" so I asked if I can fill out an app and she handed me an app, I filled it out handed back to her, plus my MVR and said thank you. Went home, made dinner and got a call that night for an interview. I've been working for them since October.
I've worked for more small companies than large ones in my life and many times I got hired by walking in the front door and asking for an app.
I don't get people when they say you can't do that - there is no national policy for hiring, you just need to get of your butt and put some effort into it. -
