Thanks mark. Having owned 3 in 3 1/2 years now I'm so well versed in the procedure I can do it going down the road with one hand now lol

I have found it to be much less of an issue with the 5 series that I have now than the 2 710's I had before. I only now at 200k have had to do the first crimp on the 5 series. The 7's didn't last nearly that long before they started needing that attention.

Whoever the engineer was that thought that a mini USB would be a good design for the environment these units operate in was just brain dead. Even with the occasional routing brain farts and that #### USB connector I still like the rm units better than the competition. I've tried several of them but still came back to the rm.

I can't get the 520 to "connect". I plug into the computer with the original cable and all it wants to do is open up to the GPS as if I'm in the truck.

Well you really do need to swing by and see me. I have the 530's and 730's here testing... The DC cord for the 530 is now a 90 degree down. Seems to be a better feel to it.

Thanks again for the pop in to the post. I was out doing a road test trying to break a unit....

Look at the USB port on the 520. You should see five gold tips looking at you. If you do, slide the USB connector (cable) out about half way (on the TND) and see if it responds to the Computer handshaking.

    Thanks,
    mark

I will do that next. At the moment I got it to connect on another tower so I'm installing Dock on there. I'm using a different cable. So going to see if that works.

Just be aware sometime the TND will not connect to a computer if a Non-RM USB cable is used.

Let me know if you have a USB cable issue.

    Thanks,
    Mark

i wish I could find the time I'd love to check them out. Thought I'd actually get a holiday but one of my tenants called after the last rain with a leaking roof so I get to spend Labor Day weekend laboring on a new roof on one of my rentals lol

That's encouraging about the new design. The extra support of a 90 degree down might be the improvement it needs to fix the reliability issue. What about the 7? Is it getting the same chang? I admit I haven't even looked at the 720 after the bad taste the 710 left in my wallet but I really do like the larger screens. If they made the same change to the 730 then I'll probably end up with one.

Mine will be in next week and I will check the DC cords out.

The x30's are about 3-4 times faster in hardware.

Well, I am always here. I do make road trips. I was thinking of heading up to Mebane on Monday. You are on the way, I could swing by and show you.

    Thanks,
    mark
