Yup. Since you only need mud flaps on the tractor when you are not hooked to a trailer, get some that can be quickly removed and stowed when you have a trailer hooked up. Whether you keep them in a side box, under the bunk, strapped down on the cat walk, or even mount an additional pair of hanger brackets on the frame in front of the drives to keep them in, just so you have them with you for when you are bobtailing. You can't tear 'em up if they ain't back there...

Awesome - thanks for the link..

Ok, next question, I think the DOT requires some of that Red/White reflective tape on the flaps. If you look at my pic's at the start of the thread, you can see it on the top connected to the current hangers..

    So with something like:

Does one just put that tape on the top part of the mudflap?

This is what I have on my truck after I ripped off 2 sets. Don't you dare hook upto a jbhunt chassis, they eat mudflaps for breakfast

for the tape go by some of those metal L type white and red reflectors made for the flaps and zip tie them on. Incase they get caught the ties will snap, not the metal.

You can get those hangers with hardware for like $46 each at a TA. New flaps are like $14

I would take your nice mudflap brackets off. Put on a pair of spring hangers they are about $80 for the kit. The container chassis will tear them up. If you have the removable you can keep them on your catwalk if you have to.

Must have mudflaps or you'll be cited for not having any mudflaps. Have seen it done before. That's pretty risky and yeah, dont even bother debating with the trooper lol. They are pretty cheap, get em and no worries. We use the steel hangers here. Cheap and effective to what they need to do.

i skimmed thru and i saw another idea, why not mover your mudflaps back 1.5 to 2 inches and youshould be able to clear your trailer and still be DOT legal

Also, they must be 6inch's from the ground or you'll be given a violation for that too.
