Hi Pariente, thanks, but just for the record, you aren't 6-7 truck lengths behind the truck you are following.
Hi RoadCall, in case you don't know, many trucks have governors that limit their speed to 62 mph, and moving back and forth from the center lane to the right lane is actually more dangerous (and frustrating for the truck driver) than just staying in the center. I do have a problem with the rolling roadblock you speak of, where 2 governed trucks take 4 miles to pass one another, That's because the moron being passed is too lazy to shut the speed control off and let the other truck pass, and should be hung by their gonads for doing so.
I am sure I have just miss read your post but...Are you saying it's the responsibility of the driver in the right hand lane, who is operating their equipment safely for the environment they are in. To adjust their speed as to allow you (in this example) who was either to lazy or unable to make a safe decision before jumping out in the hammer lane. That you could safely pass without interfereing with the flow of traffic. Then return to the right hand lane without placing that driver in a situation where as he/she was unable to see around you? Is that what you are saying is the right thing to do? I know I do not have the years of expertise you have sir, but your statement makes absolutely no sence. -

I new somebody was gonna say something about it but, just for the record, I got this close just to pass quicker plus empty, plus cell phone holder, not an excuse but you know.
6-7 truck lengths? Wow, I always leave about 150ft (2tractor trailers) when empty but thanks I'll take it to consideration. -
Yes, if I'm reading your comment right, at least I would have backed off, if I was in the right hand lane being passed, and let the person passing get around me so as not to impede traffic. The problem is, not all governors are created equal, and one truck might be governed at 62, and another at 63. Whether the person going 63 wants to pass the truck going 62 makes no sense, it still happens, and causes a bigger problem when the truck being passed doesn't let off, and you have a rolling roadblock for 2 miles. I've seen frustrated 4 wheelers pass these rolling roadblocks on the shoulder, which is totally uncalled for. If the person being passed won't give, there should be a way to disable the governor to allow a pass. Someone said, and I can't get an answer, if they pumped the throttle 3 times, it disables the governor for a short time to allow a pass.
I think it's just selfishness on both parties fault really. The one doing the passing should realize that he can't get around quickly and efficiently , and back off and leave enough space between him and the other vehicle. The one being passed thinks I'm doing the listed speed limit why should I have to move. Both are part of the problem. The best thing to do in this situation is for the driver in the right lane to slow down a bit , diffuse the situation , then travel on. It's called being cool-headed , and professional. At least in this Old Farts mind anyway."semi" retired, tirednaz, xlsdraw and 2 others Thank this. -
ya know what it will bite them in the ##### one day when someone has to slam on their brakes and they kill a family these cowboys have no bussiness on the road and it is part of what gives us professional drivers a bad name always remember you are driving a giant billboard with your company name on it some morons fail to realize it and wonder why they get fired for unsafe driving
Wild Murphy and "semi" retired Thank this. -
This is what the trucker "shortage" is really all about... following distance. Especially if ya got rid of all those who tailgate (or are < 3 seconds back at all times), there'd be a select few left with a license.
