Good stuff Adjust. I wish you luck. Just remember to be forthcoming with anything they want to know, dont hide anything, as they will send you home if you are dishonest.

Gunner, before you know it you will be ahead and you wont be stressed about your bills. Keep up the work and I'm telling you, TMC is rewarding! You see that already I am sure by talking to guys who have been there a while.

Im already seeing it Mil, the only thing that I was stressed about was my mortgage. I hadnt paid it since July, till today. Next week were gonna pay this months as well. Then all should be good. I honestly dont see how I couldve gone better than TMC. Its #### hard work, but I knew that from the start. But it feels rewarding to know Im getting paid so much better from where I was just 3 months ago.

Are you doing that apprenticeship too? Adjust, you too should use it if you go there. Extra money in your pocket from the VA.

Yes I am, I just got my first payment from them the other day. That is one reason why my mortgage was able to get paid.

I do have a question. Can I get the TMC invertor from any terminal, or just Des Moines?

Battle, are you talking about the housing stipend or is there another benefit I missed?

The VA has an apprenticeship program that TMC as well as other trucking companies take part in. It gives you a monthly payout from your GI BIll benefits that you get while you are working. Its given till you start tracking towards an average of 52k per year. It takes several months to get to that point as it will take several months of pay checks to see that you are tracking towards that amount. Once you are certified to be making that amount, you are graduated out of the program. They will explain the program to you about day 3 of orientation. It does take several weeks for the benefits to start getting deposited into your account. I just received my first pay out this week, and I started orientation back on July 7

Gunner, I've seen a lot of message boards and forums and read every crazy thread imaginable.
But man, this thread has been top notch with great information.

    I have a few questions:
    1. Is orientation and/or training different for an experienced driver? I've been driving dry van since 2006 and even had a year and a half of running a local flat bed hauling heavy equipment before I came back to the same dry van company where I'm at now still.
    2. I live in Fayetteville, Arkansas (roughly an hour south of Joplin, Mo), is there a lot of freight this direction? Most of the stuff I've seen you post about is in the Northeast and upper midwest.
    3. Do TMC trucks run APU's?
    4. Is there any specific recruiter you recommend I call to talk to once I make up my mind what I'm going to do?

Thanks again for this awesome post! Tons of great info and I like your first person perspective on stuff. You seem like a sharp guy.

I'll have to look into that. I just submitted my packet to the VA and I will have to pay for the school out of pocket and get reimbursed later. That coupled with decreased income for the next 3 months will certainly make things tight on the homestead. Any benefit I am entitled to, even if it comes later, will help with the recovery. I am confident it will all be worth it in the end.

1 experienced driver training is different, you'll do one week in des Moines, for load securement class then at least 1 week in a trainers truck since you don't have recent flat bed experience.
2 in Arkansas, yes, lots off freight with ample home time.
3 No, their idle time is liberal, idle as needed, but use common sense and don't over do it.
4 Brad or Gus are the ones I dealt with at tmc, however they have field recruiters as well, one is on the forums here and had posted my thread here
