Wake up in Sparks thinking that fire is just a few miles away...smell of the smoke and the ash on the windshield! Not a good day on those fire lines:

From my morning post (126), this fire grew 9,000 acres and only containment would be the point of origin (5%). It is now burning through the area where I fought my last fire in 1994, Hwy 50 jno Bridal Veil Falls, at the Cleveland Corrals, so named the Cleveland Fire. We were on that for one month, time of year is what kept that from going on, late September and weather played a big factor, rain with cold temps at night....not this time I guess, some small rains predicted tonight into tomorrow, but dry and windy through the weekend.

son told me that yesterday a fire crew had to deploy Fire Shelters when they got trapped by running fire...everyone had time to deploy and dig in, no injuries this time. Prayers and kind thoughts for my brother and sister firefighters!

Couple more hours and heading out to Redlands....not going down 395 for sure, winds are nasty so out and around through Fernley and Fallon and over to Bishop by way of US 6 then 395 south. Talked to a driver earlier who came up that way...the Yosemite fire has Bishop and points south covered with smoke also.

Be safe and keep an eye/ear to the fire reports, Otter.

I sure do hope y'all get some help from Mother Nature soon. Prayers for all those fighting the fires.

Yeah, I've heard a man can get "attached" to those Montana Ladies! [IMG]

Hmm, smoke and fire around Sparks. Now there has to be something there somewhere!
Well, hopefully the weather guessers are wrong and those firefighters can catch a break there!
AMEN to that! I have never been in a situation where I have panicked. But I'm not sure I wouldn't in that situation. Even if fire or suffocation didn't get to me, I'm sure I'd be scared to death! Those folks certainly earn every penny they make, and they have my total respect.
The Owens Valley seems to fill up with smoke every year. I'm not sorry I don't live there anymore! Take care through the dips down south!

Of course when you get to Redlands, you can enjoy their air. Of course you may have to cut it with a knife to enjoy it. . .
