And how would you handle a receiver or a shipper that advises against calling for directions? I had one of these the other day. It specifically stated in the load order to NOT CALL the receiver for directions. With increasingly fewer places that we are allowed and accepted to park, and in some places a cell signal is minimal, it would help a lot to have a GPS to find those last 10-15 miles of city roads. Specially if you are on a time crunch as many of us are.

I would call anyways or use company directions. Or better yet I always know where im going night before. I have told dispatch I can't deliver load without specific truck route directions....had them within 20 mins, spot on. The GPS company installed had me going other side of town.

And it will. judging by the types of complaints I see, it seems to be a lack of understanding features, as well as using of old phones to run the program. standard GPS have some of the same issues. You can see them everytime someone posts about an issue with them.

The key point i like about it is I dont have to hook it up to my pc to update it or check for updates. Every standalone GPS needs that. I like that I can use my tablet for it, as well as other things. I dont need multiple things attached to my windshield for me to operate. I only have one.

My gps is only part of my trip planning. Everytime i start a new trip i enter the address in my gps and compare it to my atlas. Then i check google maps satellite view to see exactly how to approach a customers parking lot.

On occasion i do call a customer if google maps shows a vacant lot which often means it is a newly constructed facility.

We shouldnt use only one source nor should you condemn those who utilize emerging technologies simply because you still havent figured out how to set the clock on your vcr.....which nobody uses anymore...

I don't condem GPS users if used on conjunction with atlas, but there are guys out here who can't read a freakin map. I mean really??? I use google maps too, but don't always get internet so I mainly use atlas and customer directions...hasnt failed me yet. When I tried GPS or company directions I get lost. Most companies have a recorded message now with directions and usually easy way in as opposed to shortest given by GPS. I've always been told to call the customer. Of course I just got put on a regional fleet. Run to the same 4 places all week with Saturdays off so I don't have to use GPS I can drive it in my sleep. Lol. Nice thing bout regional route there's comfort in knowing where you're going.
