The companies asking to take foreign workers on can't find people because they aren't treating or paying them a decent living wage OR continually abusing the labour pool with illegal treatment (unpaid hours and the sort).
These companies actually need to have a chance to go bankrupt. These aren't management companies, they're transportation companies, so they need to learn the value of the operator whose labour they charge for and build business upon.

When the foreign worker arrives and signs with them, they are helping the company survive having no labour.
Foreign worker availability prevents the bottom feeders from:
    -going bankrupt
-re-evaluating their treatment of drivers, clerks, dock staff to retain the people
-looking at raising their rates to ensure a better job market overall for the industry employees

I'd pay a few grand in permits and plane tickets to have a signed two year slave. I'd make that back in a few loads.

well I'm english and proud of it,, but I'm also proud of the fact that i made canada my new home,, we are now canadian citizens,,,,,, id love a reply from RUNAWAYSCREAMING to my first post asking if wages were low before the first tfw landed or immediately after he landed,,, what makes people on here think that tfw get a free ride,,,,,, we have been here 10 yrs now and we have not cost the canadian citizen anything,,,, the first job i came to had a fleet of around 80 trucks,,,,when the company opened a terminal in the us (join venture) with an american company it was then realized that only around 6 of the canadian drivers were eligible to run south (criminal past history) was the main reason they couldn't run south,,so it was to the 4 english drivers they turned and asked if they would run south,, we all obliged ,,and our earnings were on a par with everyone else... it was also noted that there was a distinct lack of canadian drivers pushing for the trips to BC once winter had set in,, again it was left to the tfw and some genuine helpful canadian guys still willing to run BC in the winter,,,certainly didn't surprise me that when summer came around those same guys willing to go out on a limb and run the vancouver lane were given good runs in summer,,, ps just thought id mention that when we sold up in england because of the excellent exchange rate we arrived with near $500.000 in the bank, approx 250,000 gbp..... all of that money was invested in canada,,, we arrived with the clothes on our backs and our suitcases,,, bought all new from canadian shops/companies,,,, we now run 4 of our own trucks employing 6 canadians and 1 european driver,,all in the oilfield on 5 on 5 off,,,,,,,,, and just for RUNAWAYSCREAMING if your pay is that bad i will offer you a job when i have a vacancy,,,5 on 5 off approx $450 per day depending on job,, full benefits for you and family after 3 months...

    Oilfield work at 450 a day($32 based on a 14hr day).
5 on 5 off (5 days at 14hrs puts you at your 70).

If the money earned is split between the 5 on 5 off a driver can expect to average $16/hr over a 10 day period.
If a driver doesn't use all his HOS when he's off for his 5 days he's going to have to work elsewhere or ask the bossman for some more seat time.

I personally think that's a poor wage for the patch.

I don't think RUNAWAYSCREAMING is going to work for you or many others for that matter.

You sound like someone who got the work by cutting the rate or you're flat out lying about having a company in the patch.......afterall who the hell is living anywhere in northern Alberta on a$16/hr average.
    Sounds like a BS story.

Although......If you think what you pay is good..... maybe have a talk with Pipeman or Nate.

In his post he says he owns a company that runs the oilpatch.
I figured at 70hrs/week he wasn't paying much.

Do they exceed 70hrs in the patch?

THE PROBLEM, how can i hire a foreign worker whom has less than 2 years experience driving a semi truck. Your singing to the choir here, i have foreign contacts but my insurance wont underwrite them to work...if, they work my truck & insurance Company insures them...Game On!
