Sorry, but if they can ping you and know in a couple seconds where you are within a few yards, it is real time - or close enough to make no difference.

I don't doubt that in the normal day to day operations there may be a lag. It makes no sense to send location info every second, it would just clog up the bandwaves.
Messaging probably is first sent into a queue, to be sent 'over the air' fifo. If the queue is deep it could take a few minutes.

But it can operate at near light speed if they make a direct request.

Well when I'm wrong, I'm wrong and I have no problem with that. Our system has lag, obviously yours doesn't. My bad. So I guess you guys are right. They'll definitely be putting in cameras facing you and then they'll fire you the first time you do the slightest little thing wrong. Sucks being you.

Oh wait I forgot, that will never happen because all the drivers are going to quit so they'll have no choice but to keep the cameras out just like they had no choice but to keep the qualcomms out because every driver quit when those were going to go in too. Carry on then. Nothing to see here.

QC's have never been a problem, they have been around a LONG time.
They are a bit faster these days, however, with 3G.

E-Logs were a big deal at first, until drivers found out that they are actually an advantage. At least to those that don't want to be bandits.

Front facing camera's are also no big deal. We want them, in general, I think.

But a camera watching me all the time would make me a less safe driver.
I would always be thinking about what the camera was seeing, instead of thinking about the road.
I have a thing in my nose and I need to get it out... but there is a camera...
I want to change a channel, but the camera is watching...
I want to take a drink, but...

There is the aspect of someone ALWAYS watching every move I make, and that would be a distraction from simply doing things as I see fit in any given circumstance.
A camera focused on me all the time would be a constant distraction, and distracted driving is the most common cause of accidents.

So, yes. A driver facing camera would be a deal breaker to me. I would quit.
I would HAVE to, for my own safety.

I'll tell you what, if it comes down to it and they put driver cams in all the company trucks (which I doubt will happen) I'll hire you moose because they aren't putting any cameras in my trucks. ;)

    Moosetek13 and Chewey Thank this.

My first job was a delivery boy and dishwasher for a little Chinese place. I did it because I liked it.
I was a security guard because I liked the job, way back when.
I was a waiter because I liked the job, and the same with bartender.
Then I was a computer tech for 12 years - again, because I liked it. I was also very good, sometimes being called a guru or tech god.
Then I became a trucker because I really like to drive. I'm very good at this job as well. (Some may not agree, because I am kinda lazy.)

But when the time comes that I don't enjoy it anymore, probably because of Big Brother, I'll simply find another line of work.
Or, I'll just die and be done with all the BS.

    Good luck in my future?
It is the same for both of us. We die.
And in the grand future of everything we are both forgotten in dust.

Whether we go on to a better afterlife is anyone's guess.
    I'm hoping so.

But even then, will we be rid of the type of 'people' that we are so disgusted with in this life?
Or are they just the same as we, just cogs in the wheel - ever turning round and round and...

Even in Heaven, a third of the angels fell from grace - simply because they wanted to choose.
And that might be our next future lives.

So, good luck in 'your' future as well.

Very similar to my own background, except for the lazy part.

Wow when I decide I hate working I'll just die? Does your DOT examiner know you have such suicidal thoughts?

    Very true. Couldn't agree more.

Umm... I'm atheist so... I'm pretty sure my fate and everyone elses has absolutely nothing to do with luck or choices. Thanks for the good wishes just the same.

More conjecture. You know we are talking about cameras facing drivers, yet you can't point to any driver facing video that proves innocence. The one specific driver facing video you do point to actually shows a guilty driver.

Who are you lecturing here? 20+ years with no collisions or moving violations is proof I am doing it right. In no way do I for one minute think I am the "rare exception" to the types of drivers who are against cameras in drivers faces, trying to calculate driver errors.

Those cameras aren't in your face, and they don't have computers analyzing sensors that email video clips to an observer when it calculates you may have done something wrong.

I'm glad the cameras saved you and your co-workers. But it sounds like those favorable results were all from FORWARD facing cameras. Again, the controversy is the driver facing cameras. It seems most drivers are ok with forward facing cameras. -- We can have one without the other...

Companies could put in FORWARD facing cameras and have many grateful drivers while still weeding out bad drivers. But no, many of them overstep and alienate many otherwise good employees.

    Are you a truck driver?
