I'm #4 from the bottom out of 24, it's not bad, but I don't care about working long hours. Last winter it was -28 on the dock in Fremont, IN and I must admit I almost hooked a set of empties and rolled home. But we made it.

Recently the union has come calling in TX and SO. CA. Con-way has been quick to change the pay scale and pass out some significant money in the past month. The pension will never be back, but the 401K contribution has gotten significantly better. It's a job, I worked at UPSF, the pension is the ONLY difference. Without the dock work it's tough to maximize your money, which I need to do so it works for me. It's a grind though, we have had a lot of departures but the senior drivers (15+ yrs) have stayed put. For 25.41/hr it's hard to complain, but it sure is hard sometimes to find the good. Good luck with the choice!

One guy who worked with us just moved south and got on with SELF. he started at 22 I believe, no overtime till after 50, but where he's living he's making great money for that area so it wouldn't beam issue

"One guy who worked with us just moved south and got on with SELF." At the ,risk of revealing my ignorance im assuming you mean South eastern line freight ?? There is a local apprentice position i have applied for and will interview for Tuesday , but southeastern has also been hiring in my area so I will pursue them next if this doesnt work out.
