First off, understand that there is a difference between layover and detention.

Detention is when a customer holds a truck for longer than normal. Some customers pay detention, some don't.

Layover is when you have a day or more IN BETWEEN loads. There may several reasons that there is time. Hours, needing a break, shop work are just some examples. Sometimes it may be because that's when the load picks up. In all those cases the answer will be no. There may be exceptions, but they are rare.

Does anyone on here drive one of the t660? Are they good trucks, mpg? Or is Cascadia or evolution so much better?

You'll get better fuel economy in a FreIghtliner hand down.

My understanding is Layover/Detention starts 4 hours appointment time. The thing with loads with 24hr pick up windows is call ahead of time and check to see if it's ready, and communicate with operations so they know what's going on. But you do have to be at the shipper/consignee to get detention/layover.

So far, the only time I have gotten layover pay is when I went to Greeley, CO to pick up a load. I was there two hours before the pickup window started (I did that on purpose). Guard shack said we will call you when load is ready. Never called that night. Called the next morning 4 hours before end of pick up window. Told it wasn't ready yet. Called every hour and told not ready. Sent a QC message saying what as happened. Kept calling throughout the day and kept being told not ready. The next morning; someone at JCT finally figured out that the load was double booked and the other driver had already took the load. Got another load that evening along with $150 for layover. That has been the only time I got layover.

Detention pay comes at random. I never ask for it, but I do send in the arrive, bump dock, and depart/empty macros. I have been told that the bump dock macro isn't used, but get detention pay on some of my settlements without having to ask.
